Emily Blunt And Dwayne Johnson Surprise Janitor Who Realized Dream Of Becoming Teacher At 43

It’s never too late to follow your dreams and make your passion your career. A man in Georgia happily became living proof of this sentiment when he made the choice to change his career path during his early forties. Tylan Bailey has always gone above and beyond at any job he has had throughout his life. As a custodian, Bailey was used to walking up and down the hallways at Hightower Elementary School in Georgia, but he wanted to make a change. 

The 43-year-old is a father of a beautiful and growing family and wanted to set a good example for his kids. Finally taking the leap, Bailey made the decision to go to college to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Bailey went on to pursue his passion and earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Georgia State University while in his early forties. While ultimately it was up to Bailey to reach his full potential, he has made sure to show his gratitude to those who helped him along the way. 

Celebrating all of Bailey’s accomplishments, a large group of his friends, family and coworkers gathered to show some love and support for the janitor-turned-teacher. Surprising the accomplished man, actors Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also showed up to congratulate Bailey on making his dreams come true as well as give him a few fun surprises. Bailey was completely overwhelmed with emotions as he was surrounded by people who loved and appreciated him and his dedication to his work.

On July 12, 2021, Good Morning America reported that Bailey had worked as a school custodian for 23 years, and will be starting his job as a teacher in the fall at Briar Vista Elementary School in Atlanta. With the support of his friends, family and fellow coworkers, Bailey found the confidence to go back to school and earn his degree so he could become a physical education teacher. 

Gathering together to congratulate Bailey on all his accomplishments, the soon-to-be teacher was surprised by two friendly celebrities, Blunt and Johnson. “What a journey and how inspiring your story is,” Johnson said. “We’re proud of you.” Blunt added, “You just keep shining your light. You’re amazing.”

The two stars then invited him to the California premiere of their new movie, “Jungle Cruise,” and also gifted him and his family roundtrip airfare, hotel room and park passes to Disneyland. The surprises kept coming and the father was also given an at-home Echelon bike and treadmill, as well as a $15,000 donation from Echelon to donate to Briar Vista Elementary School.

Overwhelmed with emotions, Bailey did his best to hold back tears as he expressed his gratitude. “Your blessings will come to you if you go for it,” he said. “Sometimes we want blessings to come to us. Just meet them halfway and you’ll get there.” He also made sure to thank those who supported him along the way and helped him reach his goals. “I feel blessed to have a community, a family of people who really supported me throughout this journey,” Bailey said. “It’s been tough.”
