Elephant Has Time Of Her Life Playing Outside With Ribbon

No one would argue that elephants are gentle giants in the animal kingdom. Did you know that they are also highly intelligent and can even be trained? The following elephant devised her very own show-stopping, heart-melting routine in this video that was posted to Youtube back in 2014. The elephant, Faa Mai, lives at Elephant Nature Park in Thailand.

Elephant Nature Park is a nature preserve in Thailand. This area is filled with lush greenery and tranquil surroundings. It's a place that can give elephants the kind of environment they need in which to thrive. Several shelters surround this particular elephant field. There is fencing with large posts to contain the elephants. The grey giants enjoy lots of fresh, green grass all around.

To an outside observer, it looked like a typical day. At one point, a preserve worker walked through the field carrying a backpack. The elephants didn't veer from their routine and seemed comfortable with the man.

Faa Mai

Faa Mai is a young elephant living at the Elephant Nature Park. She enjoys playing and interacting with other elephants. In fact, an older elephant comes over to check on her, who might even be an elderly relative. While Faa Mai was playing in the field, she made an exciting discovery. It was big, blue, and looked like lots of fun to the precious pachyderm. It was so much fun that she played with it until she taught herself lots of new tricks.

When the young elephant first picked the giant blue ribbon up, she most likely looped it around her trunk. During a play session, a video of her showed her wrapping a small ribbon length around her trunk. She would then lift it into the air.

A Blue-Ribbon Creature

The video shows Faa Mai wearing the ribbon as she proudly walked through the field. It was as if she was parading around wearing a blue ribbon won in a state fair or other competition. During her parade, she held her head high as if she won a blue ribbon. An elephant's trunk is convenient and used for many things, such as drinking and communicating.

Elephants also use their trunks for breathing, smelling, and reaching for food. A trunk can be used for fun times, grabbing at other elephants or exciting new toys. In Faa Mai's case, she grasped at the ribbon and then twirled it around. This motion wrapped her trunk in the ribbon. It was as if she was wrapping herself up into one really adorable package.

Making Waves

Once the ribbon was in her mouth, the petite pachyderm did more than wrap her trunk with it. She waved it around quite a bit. One of her most common moves was moving it in a wave motion to create an ocean of good times. As if wrapping her trunk or making waves wasn't enough fun, this enterprising elephant devised another trick. She moved the ribbon from side to side. Instead of waves, this motion created little serpentine curves.

Faa Mai did more than perform these moves in isolation. She put them together and performed them in succession. Whipping her ribbon around made her look like a ribbon gymnast. Everyone who participates in a sport like gymnastics needs a cheerleader. Elephants are no exception. When the young gymnast dropped her ribbon on the ground, one of the older elephants came alongside Faa Mai to encourage her.

A Little Encouragement

Faa Mai's elderly friend briefly joined trunks with the young gymnast. Then, they did it a second time. After this warm embrace, Faa Mai had the strength to pick her ribbon back up and resume her routine.

After performing more twirls and swirls, Faa Mai retreats to an area with a little bush. She uses her ribbon to hit the plant. Then, she bends down and enjoys a small snack after her long play session.
