Eddie Murphy, in his 60s, grew up in New York during the 1960s and has made people laugh with his comedic works in stand-up, television, and movies for over 30 years. Murphy got his start on "Saturday Night Live" from 1980 to 1984. The sky was the limit for Murphy after that. He would go on to become a comedian, writer, producer, and singer. His works include something for children and adults alike, ranging from titles such as "48 Hrs.," "Beverly Hills Cop," "Coming to America," "Doctor Dolittle," and "Shrek."

Murphy received a Golden Globe for his role in "Dream Girls," in 2007. Aside from his professional success, Murphy is also a family man. In fact, he has ten children and is a grandfather as well! As a grandfather, he wants to be called grandpa because he thinks it sounds nicer.

Murphy had two children in 1989 as well as 1990 from two different women. But in 1993, Murphy got married to Nicole Mitchell whom he has five children. Unfortunately, Murphy and Mitchell got divorced in 2006. It was then that Murphy fathered another child with Spice Girl Melanie Brown. Happily, Murphy met the love of his life after turning 50. He and his long-term partner Paige Butcher, 42, have been together since 2012 in a loving and stable relationship. The couple shares two children, although Butcher also co-parents Murphy's other children.

Despite his long career on and off the big screen, Murphy has acknowledged that his family is the greatest part of all of his success.

Speaking to PEOPLE in April 2021, the 60-year-old comedian said:

"My career, or what I am as an artist, that's not at the center of my life. At the center of my life is my family and my kids. That's the principal relationship, and everything comes after that. I have 10 kids, and I'm present, and I'm part of their lives. You got to have some kind of balance with career and personal life."

Eddie Murphy told Entertainment Tonight in 2016, "The brightest part of my life is my kids [...] My world revolves around them."

In an interview with HipHollywood, he professed similar words, "I do love my family and kids and I love being around them. And I'm always there with them."

Having ten kids is quite an accomplishment. Large families are a blessing but also rare in this day in age. Murphy has opened up and said that some daddy duties aren't the actor's specialty. The actor and comedian told Extra in 2016, "You know, I'm not a good... I don't change diapers… 'cause I would be horrible at it, and that's not fair to the child," he said

And having five different baby mommas could be a difficult and hard situation to navigate, but the star has said that everyone in his family gets along amazingly. The star said that his house was full of people and love.

"Everybody's really cool with each other and it's all love all the way around everybody gets along that's a good thing." He said, "it's a love fest at the house."

While Murphy was sitting down with host Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," he opened up about being a father in 2019. He bashed that he wasn't just a dad of 10 anymore but also a grandfather.

"I like it," he said when asked about how he likes his new life role. With his kids' ages ranging from nearly mid-30s to toddler age, the star has his hands full more than ever.

Some of Eddie's family focus might have its background in his earliest life. In an interview from 1987, Eddie confides that losing his father young took a great toll on him:

"I've really been pretty lucky. The worst tragedy ever to happen to me was when I lost my father. It was f****d up, man. I was eight. But I've had a good life."

His father sadly died in 1969. His parents had divorced a few years prior, and Eddie never found out the complete story, only knowing that a woman had stabbed him. Keeping all that in mind, it's no surprise the comedian keeps his family close. He told People in 2021 that he doesn't have one child that he isn't proud of.

"I am so blessed with my kids," he said. "I don't have one bad seed. I don't have any like 'Oh you are the one.' I don't have any of that. My kids are so great, normal people — and nobody is like the Hollywood jerk kid," he said

"My kids are smart and are trying to do stuff. I am blessed with my kids. I really, really got lucky," Murphy beamed.
