Dwyane Wade Says "Nothing Changes With My Love" About His 12-Year-Ol LGBTQ Son In Interview

Former Miami Heat player Dwayne Wade talks about letting his 12-year-old son Zion explore who he is. Wayne's wife, Gabrielle Union posted a photo with Zion that showed him wearing a crop top and long, painted nails. Users on social media criticized Wayne for letting his son do this. However, the NBA star opened up about the love and support he wants to show Zion.
The former NBA legend took the opportunity to talk about Zion to fellow NBA star Matt Barnes on his podcast and Wayne offered advice that every parent could benefit from regardless of their child's sexual preference.
Wade began by proclaiming Zion's courage and strength, saying, "You want to talk about strength and courage? My 12-year-old has way more than I have." He continued by saying that for any parent, the goal is that your kids feel that they are seen, loved and supported.

Wade said, "I had to look myself in the mirror when my son at the time was three years old, and me and my wife started having conversations about noticing that he wasn't on the boy vibe that Zaire (his other son) was on." He admits to having thoughts in the beginning of what he would do if Zion did come home and tell him that he was gay. He was unsure of what he would do or how he would react.
But Wayne said the whole issue was not about Zion who clearly knew who he was. It was about him and his beliefs which he knew needed to change.
Wayne said in the interview that he felt ignorant because of how he grew up and that he had to become more informed about the LGBTQ community. He even referred to Zion during the interview using male and female pronouns. "I've watched my son from day one become into who she now eventually has come into. Nothing changes with my love, nothing changes with my responsibilities," Wayne said.
He said that the entire experience has changed his perspective and caused him to look at life through different lenses. He said that his wife Gabrielle has also gone through this change in perspective.
