Dwayne Johnson Surprises His Mom With Her ‘Dream’ Home After A ‘Lifetime’ Of Struggles

Dwayne Johnson is an American actor, businessman and former professional wrestler. He is also known by his ring name, The Rock. Johnson worked as a WWE professional wrestler prior for eight years and is considered one of the best to ever compete in the sport. He has also seen great success as an actor and his films have grossed $3.5 billion in North America and $10.5 billion internationally. This makes him one of the most popular and highest-paid actors of all time. 

Johnson comes from a long line of wrestlers as part of the Anoa'i family. His father, Rocky, and maternal grandfather, Peter Maivia, were both professional wrestlers. Johnson signed a wrestling contract in 1996 and retired officially from the sport in 2019 as a 10-time world champion. 

The star’s first leading role in a film came in 2002 with “The Scorpion King.” Johnson went on to star in a number of comedies throughout the 2000s including, “The Tooth Fairy,” “The Game Plan” and “Central Intelligence.” Johnson joined the “Fast and Furious” franchise in 2011 as Luke Hobbs and has been partly responsible for the films’ massive popularity.

On television, Johnson produced and starred in the comedy “Ballers” from 2015 to 2019. He is currently working on an autobiographical sitcom called “Young Rock,” which he also produces and stars in. The show shows what Johnson’s early life was like and the characters are based on his actual family.

Johnson has a great connection with his family, especially with his mother. This is what made his gift to her in June 2022 even more emotional, as he gave his hard-working mother a beautiful place to call home.

Johnson is the true definition of what it means to be a family man. He is a proud dad of three daughters: Simone, whom he had with his first wife, and Jasmine and Tiana whom he had with his current wife Lauren Hashian.

He’s even given interviews about being present at all of their births and how he believes women are incredibly strong. Speaking with Access in May 2020, he discussed being present at all of his daughters' births: 

"I was right there — I'm that dad. My wife's head is up there, and I'm right here (like), 'Let me see the baby.'"

He even went further, talking about the power that women have during childbirth:

"There's this unique estrogenic reserve that only women have when they dig deep through this pain, and it is incredible to see. And it reminds me, 'Oh, of course, this is why women have babies and men don't!'"

For a man to acknowledge the pain that women have to go through and the strength that they possess in order to bring new life into the world is one thing, but to hear it from former professional wrestler The Rock, who knows his fair share about physical pain is quite another. That's one of the truly charismatic things about the wrestler-turned-actor — he's an incredibly supportive husband and doting dad at heart!

Back in March 2022, Johnson spoke with ABC News about how grateful he is to be surrounded by so many strong women in his life. “I am blessed with being surrounded by all estrogen,” he said. “I’m the only dude in the house, me and the dog.”

Surrounded by women, Johnson has quite the admiration for females and it's very likely that this comes from his own mother, Ata Johnson. He has posted photos with her on his social media pretty frequently over the years.

During this time, Johnson has also been sure to share his good fortune with his loved ones, especially with Ata. Back in 1999, the former WWE superstar purchased homes for both his parents. For Christmas in 2018, Johnson repeated the heartfelt action by buying a new home for his mom once again.

On June 4, 2022 and June 5, 2022, Johnson uploaded videos showing the latest surprise he gifted Ata with – yet again, a new home! He posted the caption:

“When I was a little boy, I hated when my mom would cry ~ these days, I’ll happily take her tears of joy…. I’ve been lucky enough to have bought her a few homes over the years, but this one is special as she’s told me over and over these past few years, ‘After a lifetime of traveling, I want this home to be my last. That’s my dream.’”

He added:

“I always say, if you got a good mom then you got a shot at becoming a good, caring human being.”

The surprise definitely meant a lot to Ata, who has been through plenty of challenges in her life. On Mother’s Day in 2021, Johnson shared a photo of himself and his mom on Instagram with the caption:

“Man I got lucky. My mom’s been thru it all… cancer survivor, evictions, head on collision by a drunk driver… Tough life. Tougher woman.”

It’s clear that Johnson learned a lot from his mother, and now he’s given her a place that she can truly call home.
