Driver Slams Brakes After Seeing Fawn Collapsed On The Road As Cameras Capture Nail-Biting Rescue

It all happened in a matter of seconds. Steve Knopp was driving with a group of friends when he noticed a disturbing sight. A baby fawn was lying in the middle of the road.
But that wasn't the only disturbing thing. The fawn appeared to be "hiding" itself: its limbs were bunched awkwardly underneath its body. Steve and his friends instantly slammed on the brakes before something tragic could happen.

Steve got out of the car and approached the fawn cautiously. His friends captured what he did next to become a true hero. Steve realized the fawn was still alive and acted quickly. The baby's mom was waiting in the woods not far away.
Steve examined the fawn slowly and carefully to make sure it wouldn't bolt. Once he gained the fawn's trust, Steve picked it up. He knew that otherwise the fawn would be in serious trouble lying in the road like that. He bundled up the fawn, holding its limbs underneath its body, and carried it into the woods.
What Steve did was very brave. However, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife advises people to leave fawns alone. If they seem helpless, Mom will be nearby to intervene. If you've picked up the fawn, be sure to wipe it with a towel to remove human scent. Use gloves to handle it. Keep a look out and if mom hasn't come back in eight hours it's time to call a rehabilitator.
Thank goodness Steve was around in this case! We're so glad that the fawn has ended up safe.
