Donny Osmond rose to fame when he joined his brothers’ band, The Osmonds, made up of Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Donny. During their peak between 1971 and 1975, the boy band was constantly top of the charts and created mass hysteria from fans wherever they went. Crowds of teenagers, often crying and screaming, would even end up chasing them. The phenomenon of “Osmondmania” was widespread, heightened by their clean-cut idol status due to their religious beliefs and wholesome lifestyle.
The Osmonds came from a large family with eight brothers — Virl, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny and Jimmy Osmond, and one sister, Marie Osmond, who was born into stardom as her brothers were already famous by the time she was born. When The Osmonds stopped producing music, Marie and Donny became a pop duo. They released the popular singles “Morning Side of the Mountain” and “I'm Leaving It All Up to You.” Their continued growth in popularity led them to front their own show in 1976 called “Donny & Marie.”
Considering his background, it's no surprise to learn that Donny is a keen family man — not only does he come from a large family, but his career was forged alongside his siblings. Married to his wife Debbie Osmond, Donny would go on to have a brood of boys himself, five to be exact!
As a loving husband and father, Donny has a full personal life as well as a successful career. The performer is also a grandfather to 12 grandchildren. His large family keeps Donny busy, but he wouldn't have it any other way. Keep reading to find out more about Donny's marriage and children.
Donny and his wife, Debbie, have been together for over 40 years. After meeting as teenagers, the pair dated for a few years before getting married in 1978. They then grew their family, eventually having five children together: Donald, who was born in July 1979, then Jeremy in June 1981, followed by Brandon in 1985, Christopher in 1990, and finally, Joshua in 1998.
In a Facebook post, as reported by Closer Weekly, Donny spoke about meeting Debbie when she was 15 years old, as she was the "hot babe cheerleader in town." After Debbie dated his brother Jay Osmond first, Donny went on to win over Debbie's heart, but he says it took him three years to do that. He reminisced:
"We've shared a wonderful life together. Debbie gave me five wonderful sons. We now have beautiful daughters-in-law."
According to Closer Weekly, in a live Q&A session on Facebook, Donny stated: "I believe the key to a successful marriage is focusing instead on what you can do to bring your spouse happiness." This is advice we could all use at times.
With a career that often meant Debbie was left alone with the kids while Donny toured, Donny praised her resilience and support in a Valentine's Day post which showed a smiling image of them together:
"Between raising our five sons, running the show at home, enjoying time with our grandchildren and running a business as well, I really don't know how she manages to do it all... She is the glue that holds us all together."

Posting to his Instagram page, Donny shared a picture of himself surrounded by his five boys, who are now all grown men. Dressed up in suits and smiling widely to the camera, all of the Osmond men looked just as handsome as each other. Donny captioned the photo:
"One of the best parts of being a father is getting to watch your children begin to learn the joy of fatherhood themselves. I couldn't ask for better sons than these 5 wonderful men."
A doting dad, Donny is clearly enamored with his family and it's truly heartwarming to see. All five of Donny and Debbie's sons are married now, with the youngest, Joshua, tying the knot in 2020. The couple was forced to substitute their planned church wedding for a backyard affair with just family present, due to the pandemic. But judging from a photo that Donny shared last year, the intimate wedding looked nothing short of perfect.
Of Donny and Debbie's other sons, the eldest, Donald, married his wife Jessica in 2010, and the couple now has four children. Their second eldest son Jeremy married Melisa in 2002 and they have three kids of their own.
Their middle son Brandon married Shelby in 2008 and they also have four children, while the second-youngest, Christopher, got married to Alta in 2017 and they welcomed their first child in November 2020. That leaves newlyweds Joshua and Summer, who are yet to welcome any kids.
Now, we can finally see all the love and happiness that Donny and Debbie have when they're surrounded by all of their children and grandchildren at the same time!
The holidays are the perfect occasion to bring together everyone in the family to share a meal and exchange presents while spending quality time and making precious memories. The Osmonds are no different in this respect from anyone else, although with such a large family, getting everyone in one place at one time is no mean feat. However, for Christmas in 2022, Donny took to Instagram to share that the Osmonds managed to gather everyone for a beautiful celebration. He posted a stunning family portrait on social media showing the entire gang, from his wife to his children and all the grandchildren, too.
Decorated with balloons and Christmas fare, the Osmonds were all smiles for the picture that miraculously managed to fit the entire family in as well as one special guest – Santa Claus! Donny captioned the lovely snap:
“May the light of Christmas shine upon you, and may we all find ways to share that light to others with unconditional love and kindness. So, from our family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.”
The Osmonds had actually begun their holiday celebrations earlier, with Donny posting a clip of the parents and children enjoying a ride on the North Pole Express, where they danced and sang along to “Feliz Navidad.” Donny captioned the post: “Debbie and I had all of our children and grandchildren on the North Pole Express. What a perfect way to get the Christmas spirit. Thanks to everyone at #hebervalleyrailroad. We had a blast!”
If it wasn’t before, it’s clearly evident now that Donny very much loves and appreciates his big and beautiful family. Like the multifaceted entertainer once said, the most essential things in life lie closer to home.
“Family is the most important thing, because the curtain will come down eventually, and then what do you have?”
