Dog's Unusual Talent Discovered By Adoptive Owner
Jun 22, 2018 by apost team
An owner discovered that their adopted puppy had a shocking ability to learn spelling. This dog is extraordinarily smart.
Can a dog spell?
It sounds like the setup for a joke, right? But at least one dog does have that ability. When Penny was a puppy, she was found wandering the city streets. She was brought to a local shelter, adopted, and then returned on several occasions. Things were starting to look dire in her search for a forever home.

But there was a plot twist: Penny was a smart dog.
Everyone would soon find out just how smart she was. Leonora Anzaluda fell in love with Penny at first sight. Penny had been brought back to the shelter because she had a streak of destructive behavior. The shelter thought she'd soon be back. But Leonora planned to give Penny stimulating activities and toys, so the dog wouldn't have to be destructive.
Penny caught on to Leonora's commands, leading the girl to wonder what other things Penny might learn.
Leonora bought some magnetic letters in an experiment to see if the dog could recognize different shapes. From there, Leonora taught Penny how to spell her name. Even though Penny is a smart dog, she's not alone in learning to spell. Recently, Pat Curry discovered her dog can spell. She had tried to outsmart the dog by spelling things.
The dog caught on pretty quick.
Pat tried a number of different methods to disguise the word "bank," and her dog caught on at all times. According to Brian Ogle, a lead instructor in anthrozoology at Beacon College, dogs don't know they're spelling words. Instead, they associate the letters with the word.
Dogs like people to be happy.
When we talk to them for long periods of time, they're more likely to pay attention to what is being said.
Dogs are so much smarter than we give them credit for. What weird things has your dog figured out? Show this to a dog-loving friend!
