Dog Filled With Pride As Sister Walks For The First Time

People worldwide are celebrating a little girl's first steps, and now you can join in on the joy as well. Maya Tisdale lives in Michigan and deals with her cerebral palsy daily. It is no wonder that so many people became emotional when Maya was able to take her first independent steps. Her dog may have been the most excited of them all.

Maya was born four months early at only 26 weeks of gestation, according to ABC News. At the time of her birth, Maya only weighed one pound and 10 ounces. Her will to fight earned her the nickname of "Mighty Miss Maya" while in the NICU.

The brave girl was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy before she turned two. This strain cerebral palsy makes it difficult for Maya to stand on her own for more than just a few seconds.
"I'm walking! I'm walking!" Maya exclaims in the video.
Maya's mother, Ann, said to ABC News that her daughter has an independent streak. Despite her physical challenges, Maya still tries to keep up with her two older brothers. Maya has undergone a host of treatments and therapies designed to increase her ability to move.
After much research, the family decided to travel to St. Louis Children's Hospital to undergo a surgical procedure called a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. The surgery was a success, and after much work, Maya was finally able to take those steps.
Maya still has a long road ahead of her. The cerebral palsy will always be a part of her life. Daily treatments and stretching will help keep her on her feet, but it will not be easy. Fortunately, she has proven that she is up for any challenge.
