Dog Continually Ran Away From Home To Spend 6 Days Outside Hospital Waiting For Sick Owner

Dogs are said to be loyal friends, and one special pet made that very clear when her owner suddenly became ill. A man from Turkey, Cemal Senturk, was transported by ambulance to Medical Park Hospital in the city of Trabzon on Jan. 14, 2021. Senturk’s dog, Boncuk, escaped from their apartment after he was taken, following the ambulance to the hospital, where she waited outside for six days for her owner to be discharged.

After Boncuk initially escaped, Senturk’s family was called to bring the dog home. However, the next day she escaped again and was waiting outside of the hospital for her owner to come out. The dog did the same thing every day for nearly a week, and no one could figure out how she was getting outside. 

Boncuk was friendly with the hospital staff, and they even fed her on occasion to make sure she stayed healthy as well. The dog was also able to see Senturk through a window and was reassured by his presence.  

The love from our pets is exactly what we need when we are feeling down, so it must have warmed Senturk’s heart to see how much Boncuk cared about his well-being. The canine friend was very well-behaved, despite escaping from his home for six days in a row. Boncuk just needed to be close to Senturk and know that he was safe. 

Boncuk is an adorable small dog with an all-white coat. She is getting up there in years, having lived with Senturk for nearly a decade. Keep reading to hear more about this heartwarming story. 

Murat Ercan, the hospital’s international patient center director, told CNN that the staff at the hospital called Senturk’s sister, Aynur Egeli, every day to retrieve the dog and still Boncuk would show up again the next day.

It is impressive that the dog was able to follow the ambulance to the hospital in the first place and then remember the way back each day. Ercan said in a statement, “His dog ‘Boncuk’ has followed him to the hospital gate and refused to leave for six days until her owner was discharged.”

Everyone was surprised that Boncuk figured out how to escape so many times, and it is a miracle she did not get hurt. No one is sure how she did it. “Even though the family (took) Boncuk back home she managed to escape every day to wait at the hospital gate,” Ercan added.

Ercan and the staff at the hospital knew Senturk’s history with the dog, so they did not mind her presence. “Cemal Senturk has been with Boncuk for nine years and he also stated that he missed her a lot during his stay at the hospital,” Ercan said.

The dog’s love and comfort brought a smile to the staff and other patients at the hospital, spreading joy wherever she went. Ercan said of Senturk’s release, “After he was cleared to go out he met his dog at the hospital gate. Boncuk has behaved really sweet during the six days and has managed to capture the love and affection of the whole staff.”
