Doctors Don't Recommend These 7 Common Foods For Breakfast

Nov 09, 2018 by apost team

When it comes to deciding what to eat in the morning, there are a few foods that you might lean toward that taste better than others. Unfortunately, some of these breakfast foods aren't recommended by doctors because of their high sugar and calorie contents.

Most breakfast foods should have less than 700 calories. The nutrients that are in them should give you energy that can last for several hours instead of giving you a short burst that goes away only an hour or two later, making you feel tired.

Pancakes Or Crepes?

While both of these can fill you up and are tasty to enjoy, adding syrup and other toppings can raise the calorie content a significant amount. The high sugar and calorie content can lead to obesity either now or later in life. It can also impact your mood during the day. Consider using fresh fruits as toppings and making pancakes with oat or wheat flour instead of traditional pancake batter.

Cereals

There are numerous cereals that come in attractive boxes and that are fun to eat because they taste good. These cereals have high amounts of sugar in them and should be avoided. Consider granola, cornflakes, or muesli as these are easier to digest. Flaxseed is an option to add to your cereal for more fiber and protein.

Toast

A piece of toast with butter and jelly and a cup of coffee is a simple meal to enjoy for breakfast. When you toast white bread, there are more carcinogens that are released. Whole wheat bread with a sugar-free jelly is an option if you enjoy eating toast in the morning. Also, remove the burnt pieces of crust to decrease the number of carcinogens.

Chocolate Spreads

Nutella is a chocolate spread that can be put on bread, bagels, and other foods in the morning. However, it contains over 80 percent of the recommended amount of sugar for the entire day. While this tasty treat can put you in a good mood, you'll start feeling tired soon after eating. Swap your chocolate spread for peanut butter that has a reduced amount of sugar if you don't want plain bread in the morning.

Rice

While rice is often considered a side dish for lunch or dinner, there are some people who like to eat it in the morning. There are a lot of carbs in even a small amount of white rice, so brown rice should be substituted. Brown rice is also better for the digestive tract and has a higher amount of fiber.

Smoothies

These are a tasty treat that you can make with almost any kind of ingredient that you have, which means that they can be as healthy or as unhealthy as you want them. When you combine a lot of fruits or vegetables in a smoothie for more flavor, they tend to break down more and lose their nutritional benefits. Use a measuring cup when adding the ingredients to your smoothie, avoiding citrus fruits in your smoothies. Blueberries and oats are good options to use in this cold drink in the morning.

Milk

When you eat a bowl of cereal, you want to put milk on it instead of eating it plain. However, drinking milk in the morning can sometimes lead to digestive issues that last the rest of the day and can lead to an increase in acne. Enjoy a glass of milk after eating breakfast so that your food has time to digest.
