Doctors Are Now Telling Parents To Stop Buying Baby Walkers Due To Health Concerns
Sep 24, 2018 by apost team
While many parents love to sit their baby down in a baby walker, doctors warn that is not a good idea. In fact, in some countries, like Canada, they are banned because of the safety hazard that they pose. Other doctors argue that baby walkers delay the mental and physical development of babies.
Baby Walker Safety Hazards
Most of the injuries caused by baby walkers happen when a child in one of them accidentally falls down the stairs. Other injuries occur when the walker falls over injuring the baby on the way down.
Other babies are injured when they reach hot surfaces and other things that they would normally not be able to reach if they were not in a baby walker.
The dangers are so real that Canada made it illegal to even import one in 2004, and many doctors in the United States would like to see a ban on them.

Deaths by Baby Walkers
Approximately two deaths per year can be attributed to baby walkers. It is not that the parents are not paying attention, but a baby can move up to three feet per second in a walker.
Therefore, getting distracted for even a few seconds can lead to tragedy. Over 90 percent of injuries from walkers involve head or neck injuries.
When a child is brought to an emergency room because they have gotten hurt while playing in their walker, over 75 percent of the time it is because the child fell down stairs.
Baby Walkers Slow Development
Doctors also warn that putting your baby in a walker can slow their mental and physical development.
Doctors say that almost all children must go through the same developmental milestones before they learn to walk and putting a baby in a walker where they do not learn to crawl, pull up on things and take their first steps can delay the walking process significantly.
Better Choices
Many doctors recommend that children be put on their stomachs on the floor for playtime.
If you want your child to be upright, however, do not use a walker. Instead, choose a play saucer that sits the baby upright but does not have wheels.
Now that you know the truth, please help spread the word to others who need to know how unsafe baby walkers are for babies. If you have a scary story involving a baby walker, then please share with us. By working together, we can stop the damage from baby walkers because even one dead or injured child is too many.
