They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When it comes to puppies though, people tend to go for the most stereotypical, cutest ones possible. People love puppies. They are soft, playful, and so full of life.
There is nothing sadder than a perky little puppy who can't find his forever home. For one puppy called Brodie from Canada, it seemed that his physical disfiguration would stand in the way of this dream, but a good-hearted couple ensured he found a happy home.
The joyful dog didn't let his physical differences prevent him from happiness in spite of the odds. In fact, he has overcome the unthinkable and is now being trained to help humans by being a therapy dog.
Brodie is a Border Collie mixed with a German Shepherd. He was previously a shelter pup. Sadly, he was adopted and given back to the shelter as a puppy, reports the Metro. He has had some rough times, to say the least. These rough times have fortunately led him to a good situation today. His personality is positively infectious, and he doesn't let his outward appearance detract from his inner shine.

When Brodie was still just a puppy of fewer than two weeks old, something horrible happened. His mama, for reasons unknown to everyone, went after him and attacked his face. According to the Metro, she broke his cranium and caused limited blindness in one of his eyes. Brodie's original owners were not sure what caused his birth mother to come after him like she did, but he was strong and brave and healed.
In Old MacDonald Kennels, which is located in Albert, Canada, Brodie waited to find his forever home once he had healed from his injuries. In spite of his facial disfiguration, he found a home pretty quickly. It really wasn't a huge surprise, given how adorable and happy the pup was.
Unfortunately, his new home didn't work out for Brodie. His new owners were concerned that he was too hyperactive and that he needed more experienced owners with more room for him to play. And as fate would have it, Amanda Richter and Brad Ames were waiting for him. Because the shelter put pictures of Brodie online, the couple saw him and immediately fell in love with the cutie.
Amanda explained that she felt a strong connection with Brodie from the very beginning. They were thinking about just fostering him for a while, but after spending only one day with him, they adopted him. They both just knew right away.
Brodie is still very, very excitable. According to Amanda and Brad, he is incredibly smart, and he moves fast, which actually makes training the pup quite easy. He has mastered several tricks and listens beautifully. "Just because someone or something looks different, they can be perfectly imperfect in their own unique way,” his new owners told CityNews Winnipeg.
Brodie has a big future ahead of him. Amanda and Brad have decided that Brodie's energy is not a bad thing, nor is it something they should discourage. Instead, they have plans to help channel his energy into something amazing. Brodie is now in training to become a therapy dog for people living with disabilities.
The optimistic couple believes that Brodie is the perfect dog for the job. He is excited, he is kind, and above all, he is a good boy. Plus, Brodie's physical differences show humans everywhere that being unique is a good thing and shouldn't make you feel bad about yourself.
Amanda and Brad have an Instagram page for Brodie called, "bestboybrodie." You can keep up to date on Brodie's new tricks, therapy training progress, and general cuteness. It is wonderful that he has finally found his home.
Though Brodie was harmed and left disfigured as a puppy, he lives a great life now and one that helps the world become a better place. Encourage your friends to read about Brodie and be inspired as well!
