At the end of long days, most everyone’s legs feel tired. All you want to do is plop down and put your feet up. It’s not unusual for the legs to tire, but it can be accompanied by some very uncomfortable symptoms of fatigue for some people. You can take some steps to proactively avoid tired leg symptoms. You can also use a homemade spa recipe to relieve unavoidable tired leg cases.
What Causes Tired Legs?
Your leg muscles power any walking and standing you do throughout the day. They carry and support your entire body weight when standing or walking. Circulation issues can cause blood to move slowly or become stagnant around your calves and ankles verses continuing onward on its journey back to the heart.

As you sit, your knees are bent and the blood vessels running down your buttocks and legs are compressed, both of which impede circulation.
So whether you mainly sit or mainly stand, your legs are naturally going to be somewhat tired from muscle fatigue. However, circulation issues can exaggerate the symptoms of fatigue. While tired legs can impact either gender, research has shown that women are more prone to it than men.
Symptoms Of Tired Legs
Circulation issues and muscle fatigue in the legs may make your legs feel very heavy and weighted. Your legs may feel tingly or sting like you’re being poked by hundreds of tiny small pin pricks. Legs, ankles, and feet may swell and turn red. The skin may itch. Your muscles may cramp or feel very tight.
Can Tired Legs Be Avoided?
You can take many steps to help lighten the burden on your legs and improve your circulation, including:
- Practice good workplace ergonomics, which is all about tailoring your body mechanics, work space, and equipment to work with and for you, not against you.
- Change positions often. If you sit all day, then take breaks to stand up, stretch, point your toes, rotate your ankles, and extend your knees throughout the day. Standing jobs should take similar breaks to change position and keep blood circulating.
- Lifestyle changes may also improve muscle and circulation strain on your lower extremities. Smoking and heavy alcohol use impairs circulation. Obesity impairs circulation and increases the workload of standing and walking and compression weight upon the legs during sitting.
- Environments that are too hot constrict blood vessels, thereby making it harder for blood to circulate up to the heart.
- Routine conditioning and aerobic exercise improves circulation and muscle strength.
