Actors Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen are both well known in their own right, so when they got together in the early 2000s, they instantly became one of Hollywood’s most-talked-about “It” couples. Denise, who is best known for playing a beautiful Bond Girl in “The World is not Enough,” as well as her roles in fan favorites “Starship Troopers,” “Wild Things,” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous,” among others, met Charlie in 2000 on the set of the film “Good Advice.”
Denise went on to guest star on Charlie’s show “Spin City” in 2001, which is when the two stars began dating. The couple became engaged just a few short months later, in December 2001, before marrying the following June at “Spin City” creator Gary David Goldberg’s estate.
In just a few years, the newlywed couple would have two beautiful daughters — Sami Sheen, who was born in March 2004, and Lola Sheen, who was born in 2005.
But despite seeming like the picture of Hollywood happiness from the outside, their relationship began to crack publicly, and it seems it was mostly due to Charlie’s hard-partying ways, something he was known for since his youth.
Ultimately, Denise filed for divorce in March 2005, and it was finalized by November 2006.
By 2011, the reality TV star was a single parent and decided to adopt a daughter named Eloise Joni Richards. Her child has a rare chromosomal disorder which affects the way she speaks.
Years later, in 2017, Denise started dating Aaron Phypers, and they got married a few months later in Malibu, California. In 2019, Denise revealed that her husband decided to adopt Eloise.
In 2023, Eloise made a rare public appearance, and she’s become a grown young lady. Read below to see what she looks like today.
In an interview with People Magazine, Denise Richards recalled the adoption process of her daughter Eloise Joni Richards. Thankfully, the experience was easy for her thanks to her two other daughters, Sami Sheen and Lola Sheen.
“When you go through the adoption process you have to do a home study, and they have to talk to [your] children, and I didn’t want to talk about it with the girls that early, because it was two years before the adoption came through,” she explained.
The reality TV star also noted the reason why she decided to adopt Eloise in the first place, and it was all because of her maternal instinct. Even though she was a single mother at the time, she had to do something.
“I felt like I wasn’t done having children, and I’ve always wanted to have a large family,” she said.
She recalled that following her divorce from Charlie Sheen, she was certain that she’d get married again and expand her family even more, but it didn’t happen soon enough, so she decided to grow her family on her own.
Regarding how Sami and Lola treated Eloise, Denise was happy with how they acted as big sisters.
“I’m so very proud of them that they’ve really embraced Eloise. They’re so protective of her, they play with her, they love watching her grow and change, and so far I haven’t seen any jealousy,” she revealed.
Although they were great siblings at the time, Denise said the two still needed to figure out how to change diapers.

In a separate interview with People Magazine in 2019, the actress shared more details about raising her daughter, who was seven years old at the time.
She told the publication that she was proud of the way she raised her children as it was so much different from her upbringing.
However, she also admitted that she faced some challenges in raising Eoise because of her chromosomal disorder that has “caused a lot of developmental delays” for her youngest child.
“There are times when she feels like her age in understanding, and then other times where it feels she’s emotionally 3 years old. It’s been challenging,” she admitted.
Regardless, Denise still tried her best as she learned a lot of things along the way.
“I’m learning every day because they don’t really have a road map for her particular case,” she said.
At the time, Denise was unsure if Eloise would ever speak like a typical child, but she just wanted what was best for her children, so she did her best to provide for them.
In November 2023, people were surprised to see Denise and her husband Aaron Phypers with Eloise, who had been private most of her life, attend a very public event called The Hollywood Christmas Parade.
The major event, which celebrated its 91st anniversary that year, was for a good cause as they helped underprivileged people for the Christmas season. They supported the US Marines Toys For Tots Programs as well as other organizations.
Eloise, who sported a blue puffer jacket and short hair, could be seen posing for a photo with her mom and dad for the holiday event, and she seemed to have had a great time because she was all smiles in some of the photos.
