Demi Moore 'Overjoyed' To Welcome First Grandchild With Ex-Husband Bruce Willis

Demi Moore is an icon in her own right, and after celebrating her milestone 60th birthday in November 2022, she’s defying cultural norms and feminine expectations with a new swimwear line honoring health and beauty at any age.

Moore rose to fame in the 1980s. According to Biography.com, Moore hit the big time in 1985, when she portrayed Jules in "St. Elmo's Fire." Moore became a core member of the "Brat Pack." Moore made her leading lady debut in "Ghost," where she starred alongside Patrick Swayze. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination. GoldDerby ranked "Ghost" as one of Moore's most outstanding performances, while her roles in "A Few Good Men" and "About Last Night" were ranked second and third.

Moore married equally famous Hollywood star Bruce Willis. Willis is most famous for his roles in action films but has also shown to have quite a diverse set of talents, appearing in films and television shows in a variety of genres and even showing off his skills as a singer. On top of that, Willis is also adored for his amazing qualities as a husband and father.

Willis had his breakthrough in 1985 with the TV series "Moonlighting," and has since appeared in more than 70 films. Some of his most loved performances include in the films “Pulp Fiction,” “Armageddon,” “The Sixth Sense,” and his portrayal of John McClane in the “Die Hard” franchise.

Although the couple was regarded as a Hollywood powerhouse at the time, the marriage was not working out behind closed doors. Willis and Moore divorced in 2000, but they have remained good friends and great co-parents ever since. Now the pair will cross the threshold together as they step into a new era of their lives – grandparenthood.

It's safe to say Moore knows the importance of family and friendships more than anyone after all the ups and downs she went through over her life. Now at 60 years of age, she enjoys a good relationship with all her daughters, her ex-husband Willis, his wife Emma Heming and their children Mabel, 10, and Evelyn, 8. 

Willis and Moore’s love story began in 1987. The pair tied the knot in November of that year and welcomed three daughters into the world: Rumer, born in 1988, Scout, born in 1991, and Tallulah, born in 1994. While Moore and Willis appeared happy in the public eye, there were some complications behind the scenes. They shocked the world in June 1998 when they announced their separation and filed for divorce two years later. 

Despite their split, Willis and Moore continued to co-parent their daughters to stunning effect. In an interview with Larry King, Rumer said, “I never had to split up vacations or split up birthdays.” She went on to say they always did events as a family unit. “They always made an effort to do all of the family events still together and made such an effort to still have our family be as one unit, as opposed to two separate things, which I think really made an impact.”

Alongside Willis, Heming and their children, Moore’s big blended family gets along well and even regularly takes photos together for social media. Photos posted by Moore and their daughters on Instagram showed the entire family hanging out at home as one unit for 2022’s year-end holiday season.

One photo showed Willis alongside Moore and Heming, surrounded by his daughters, with everyone sporting big and joyful smiles. Another photo showed Willis and Heming holding hands at the dinner table, with Willis beaming with happiness. A third picture was of Willis with Tallulah and her dog, Pilaf, as well as Moore, while the last picture in the carousel was of Pilaf with another pet dog. Moore captioned the post uploaded on Dec. 12, 2022, “We are FAMILY!! Getting into the holiday spirit!”

It’s clear just how close and loving Willis’s blended family is. Earlier in 2022, they had also stepped in to take care of him after he was diagnosed with aphasia, making it difficult for him to act. The condition, which disrupts a person’s ability to communicate and understand speech, led to Willis’s retirement in March 2022. Despite the setback, Willis, Heming, Moore and the children have moved forward as a strong family unit and continue to give the “12 Monkeys” star the support and love he needs. 

Talullah also posted a photo from the family get-together of her with Moore, who was holding Pilaf, and Willis, who appeared to be locked in a staring contest with the pet. “The laser beam communication between Pilaf and Papa is stunning,” she wrote in the caption, before adding “I love my parents and my family – I do I do I do!”

Now, Moore and Willis are set to welcome a new member to the already large family in the form of their very first grandchild.

On Dec. 20, 2022, Moore’s eldest daughter Rumer took to social media to announce her impending pregnancy with her partner Derek Richard Thomas with a carousel of black and white photos. Captioned simply with a sprout emoji, one photo showed Thomas giving Rumer’s baby bump a kiss and another with his face full of joy and excitement. A third photo showed Rumer’s silhouette with the bump in full view as she stood by a window.

The “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” actress and Thomas, a musician and producer, confirmed their romantic link with adorable social media posts in mid-2022.

The baby will be Willis and Moore’s first grandchild.

The photos were reposted by proud mom Moore, who delightfully captioned her post, “Entering my hot kooky unhinged grandma era 🌱” Scout followed suit in her repost of the photos, and wrote, “🌱Activating hot, kooky, unhinged Aunt Scout era 🌱” while she thanked Rumer and Thomas “for co-creating my new best friend.” In the same vein, Tallulah, too, reposted the photos, with the caption, “entering my hot kooky unhinged auntie era 🌱”

Heming also celebrated her stepdaughter’s good news, reposting the photos with the caption: “Baby news is happy news!!! Congratulations @rumerwillis and @derekrichardthomas We are elated over here! 🐣” showing once again just how strong the Willis, Moore and Heming family unit is. 

Moore also posted a photo of her with her daughters at a doctor’s appointment with Rumer, captioning it “Saying hello to the little nibblet!! Overjoyed for you, my sweet Rumer. It’s an honor to witness your journey into motherhood, and can’t wait to welcome this baby into the world!” Rumer responded “So grateful for my incredible lineage of women in my family. I love you all so much. This baby is so lucky to have you guys.”
