In early 2025, “The Substance” actress Demi Moore made headlines as she was experiencing an outstanding awards season. In an interview with Variety, Moore opened up about her enduring relationship with ex-husband Bruce Willis, emphasizing that they remain a close-knit family despite their divorce nearly 25 years ago. Moore, 62, and Bruce, 69, were married from 1987 to 2000 and share three daughters: Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah Willis, 31. Bruce also has two younger daughters, Mabel, 12, and Evelyn Willis, 10, with his current wife, Emma Heming Willis.

After an illustrious career filled with celebrated films such as “Die Hard” and “The Sixth Sense,” Bruce was forced to step away from acting due to health reasons. Bruce retired from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder affecting communication abilities. In 2023, his family announced that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, a disease impacting the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, leading to personality, behavioral, and language changes.

Moore has been a steadfast presence throughout Bruce’s health issues. She visits him weekly, providing support not only to Bruce but also to his wife, Emma and their daughters. Their unique family situation is truly inspirational, as it shows their commitment to staying a family despite not being married anymore.

“We will always be a family, just in a different form,” Moore said of her relationship with Bruce.

“For me, there was never a question. I show up because that’s what you do for the people you love.”

At the end of 2024, Moore shared an update on Bruce’s health condition in an interview with CNN. The actress revealed:

“Given the givens, he’s in a very stable place at the moment…There is great loss, but there is also great beauty and gifts that can come from it,” Moore shared.

She went on to advise many others whose loved ones were in a similar position as Bruce and how to approach them, saying:

“And I’ve shared this before, but I really mean this so sincerely. It’s so important for anybody who’s dealing with this to really meet them where they’re at, and from that place, there is such loving and joy.”

Moore and Bruce’s post-divorce relationship has also positively impacted their children. Their eldest daughter, Rumer, revealed the positive influence that this has had on their family on the British talk show, “Loose Women.”

“Even when they split up, they created such a beautiful foundation of prioritizing my sisters and I,” she said. “I never felt like I had to choose. Like, they never played against each other. We were a family, and we still are very much a family no matter what.”

Moore knows their situation is uncommon but hopes it will inspire other blended families to follow their example. Her close friendship with Bruce and his wife Emma has undoubtedly benefitted their daughters. Most importantly, seeing their family rallying around Bruce amidst his health battles is heartwarming. Moore shared her thoughts on their family, saying:

“I hope it’s encouraging for others to see that there’s a different way to do things… There is life after divorce. There is a way to co-parent with love.”
