Deaf Dog Spends 11 Years On The Streets Then Wakes Up And Realizes His Life Has Changed Forever

Solovino was like so many other dogs who start life in a loving home only to be dumped for a multitude of reasons. In fact, about 670,000 dogs are euthanized in the United States annually because they have no one to love them.

Workers with Rocket Dog Rescue believes that Solovino may have lived on the streets for 11 years before he gave up the will to live and collapsed on the front porch of a house that he did not know.

Luckily, the woman who found him there was determined to make a difference in Solovino's life. In fact, she is the one who named him Solovino, which means he comes alone in Spanish.

She notified authorities with Rocket Dog Rescue who flew in an expert from San Francisco to take possession of Solo and to help him. The rescue was able to lovingly nurse Solovino back to health. He was adopted out several times, but each time something would go wrong and Solo would be returned to the group.

Then, Carol Messina saw Solovino's picture and knew that he was calling to her to come adopt him. She made contact with the group and was quickly approved for adoption. She renamed the lonely mutt Solo because she is a Star Wars fan and he came solo. Yet, many of Carol's friends and neighbors wondered what Carol saw in the little mutt that no one wanted.

In fact, for more than a year, Solo refused to be friendly and often chose to hide when visitors came to visit Carol.

Then, she had his teeth cleaned, and the dog started to act better. One day, Carol noticed something else about her new best friend. It turns out that Solo is deaf. Therefore, he wears a sign informing humans of the fact and asking them to make sure that he knew they were there before trying to pet him.

Carol also started flipping on and off the light when she would enter a room where Solo was so that he would know that she was there. These two simple changes turned the lonely mutt into a very outgoing dog that is now loved by the entire neighborhood.
