While it’s an old cliche to say that your wedding day is the most important day of your life, there’s some truth to it. Not only do millions get married every year, but many of these couples spend months — if not years — planning their big day. Ada and Mateusz, a recently married couple from Poland, certainly took their wedding ceremony seriously. In fact, they took it so seriously that they planned an elaborate dance routine for their guests, which has since spread across the internet like wildfire, inspiring other romantics from around the world.
Ada and Mateusz surprised their wedding guests back in 2018 when they performed a choreographed dance to the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from the movie “Dirty Dancing.” But this is no amateur video, as viewers will soon find out. Film production studio Beres Film professionally captured the dance, using multiple high definition cameras from different angles. And the results are breathtaking — not to mention romantic!
The video, which has accumulated more than 14 million views, begins with the two smiling lovebirds on an empty dance floor. This dance, the couple’s first, is special, and so the wedding’s many guests give the couple room and watch from the sidelines. And as soon as Ada takes Mateusz’s hand, the crowd cheers. It really is like something out of a movie: a picture-perfect couple, a beautiful outdoor dance floor, dozens of smiling loved ones and a romantic song about the passion of love playing in the background.

Ada and Mateusz's routine largely mirrors director Emile Ardolino’s “Dirty Dancing” finale in which Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), the film’s hero, makes an unexpected appearance to dance with his lover, Baby (Jennifer Gray), at a talent show toward the end of the movie. We’re sure that “Dirty Dancing” fans familiar with the scene are asking themselves one question: do Ada and Mateusz pull off the film’s famous “lift”? While it’s worth watching the video below to find out for yourself, let’s just say that Mateusz definitely impresses the guests and viewers with his upper-body strength.
In fact, there are countless commenters who seem impressed with the couple’s inclusion of Johnny and Baby’s difficult but spectacular lift.
“Me wondering if they're actually gonna do it. O: They DID IT!!” Marie Killingsworth wrote, alluding to the legendary dance move.
“Waiting for the lift.. The lift... The liiiiift - OH MY GOSH THE LIFT!!!” a YouTuber by the name of Marta commented.
“Dear future husband,” Gaby Polanco added, “You better start lifting heavy .....ill see you in five years 😂.”
Other viewers seem inspired by Ada and Mateusz’s wedding itself, with one commenter writing that he can tell that this “man and woman are truly in love.”
For those that have no clue what any of these commenters are talking about, “Dirty Dancing” is a popular Rom-Drom from the late 1980s that has become a cultural touchstone in the U.S. The story (spoilers incoming!) revolves around Bunny, a privileged teenage girl, as she vacations at a fancy resort in the Catskill Mountains in New York State.

It’s there that Bunny meets Johnny, the resort’s handsome and charming dance instructor. Bunny and Johnny casually take up dancing together, and the two begin to fall in love as beautiful people do in movies. But as a drama, the film’s got to have some conflict, which arrives when Johnny’s official dance partner, with whom he planned on performing at the resort’s dance competition, drops out because she has to get an abortion. Baby, who has learned a few moves from Johnny, steps in. A few other things happen in the interim — like Johnny being fired from the resort — but the film’s most iconic moment is its finale. Johnny unexpectedly shows up at the resort’s talent show after his dismissal, and he and Baby dance to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” making for a romantic and happy ending. Given the scene’s passionate context, it’s no wonder that Ada and Mateusz chose to reenact it.
While some critics like Roger Ebert panned the film, others have sung its praises as a fresh take on dance and romance.
“The dancing here brings out the sensual dreaminess of the songs,” Pauline Kael wrote in her 1987 review for the New Yorker. “'Dirty Dancing' — what a great title! — is such a bubbleheaded, retro vision of growing up in the sixties (or any other time) that you go out of the theatre giggling happily."
Kael touches on one of the film’s key elements — the music.
"(I've Had) The Time of My Life" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
Frank Previte, the relatively unknown lead singer of the East Coast rock band Franke and the Knockouts, co-wrote the song for the “Dirty Dancing” soundtrack back in the late ‘80s. In a 2020 interview with American Songwriter, Previte opened up about the song’s genesis. The songwriter explains that “Dirty Dancing’s” music supervisor, Jimmy Ienner, called him “out of the blue,” gave him a short description of the film and asked him to write a 7-minute-long song for the movie. At first, Previte was reluctant, but one day he had an epiphany while driving down the Garden State Parkway. And the rest, as they say, is history.
“When I met Patrick at the Oscars,” Previte told American Songwriter, “he told me ‘you have no idea what this song did for this movie … We listened to 149 songs and hated them … We all felt the ending wasn’t happening and the movie was going to bomb. Then your cassette with you and Rachele Cappelli singing “Time of My Life” came in. We filmed to that and at the end of the day we all looked at each other and said, “wow, what just happened? This ending is awesome! Let’s go make this movie!’’ It changed everything for them for the better.”
Ada and Mateusz's romantic reenactment of this iconic Hollywood moment just goes to show how important “Dirty Dancing” and “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” have become. And thanks to their great dancing skills and the passion these two bring to this performance, it’s safe to say that these two have done the scene justice. As one commenter writes, “Patrick Swayze is proudly clapping up in heaven."
