Dad Angrily Gets Rid Of Earrings From Baby's Ears After His Wife Secretly Gets Them Pierced
Dec 13, 2022 by apost team
Ear piercing is one of the most common forms of body modification and is popular in many cultures around the world. Wearing earrings can be a simple yet effective way to make a statement with your appearance, whether you opt for a classic pair of studs or something more extravagant like hoops or drop earrings. While some people really enjoyed the way this small piece of jewelry looks, others are not always fans.
Although most people view piercings as accessories, it's important to remember that they can make life-lasting changes to a person's body. There are some health risks that go along with getting a piercing, which is why some people opt to wait until they are old enough to handle the pain and potential side effects. However, it's common for parents to want to get their children's ears pierced.
A father went to Reddit on Sept. 20, 2021, to ask for advice about getting his daughter's ears pierced. His wife had taken their daughter for the day and got her ears pierced without telling him first. This frustrated him to the point that he removed the baby's earrings, resulting in a fight between him and his wife.
While he wasn't a fan of her getting their daughter's ears pierced without his approval, he was more upset that his daughter wasn't able to make the decision herself. However, it was something that was popular in the mother's culture and she felt she was justified in her decision. Read on to find out more about this situation and what advice Reddit users offered the father.

Risks Of Getting Your Baby's Ears Pierced
While some parents wait until their children are old enough to make the choice themselves about whether they want to pierce their ears, some parents don't wait too long before they make the ear-piercing appointment for their small baby. Healthline reported that some physicians recommend waiting until baby's are around 4 months old as this is typically the time when they have received their two tetanus shots.
There are some complications and potential health risks that come along with piercing your baby's ears. Since there is generally pain involved in the piercing process, babies will be forced to deal with the discomfort without really understanding what's going on. A common risk is the possibility of getting an infection, while a less thought about risk is making sure the earring's back is on tight enough so it doesn't fall off and pose a choking risk to your baby. Some signs that your baby might have an infection include redness, swelling, warm to the touch or a fever, according to Healthline. Using a saline solution could help mediate any of these side effects.
At the beginning of his Reddit post, the father talked about how he and his wife had been trying to decide whether they should pierce their 2-month-old daughter's ears. "We've been having the piercing debate since before she was born," he said. "She comes from a culture where it's the normal thing, but I'm just not comfortable with a painful process like that and would prefer to wait until she's older so she can choose whether to go through that for herself."

Removing The Piercings
His wife took Alicia, their daughter, out for the day with her and her family while he ran some errands. When he got home, he was met with an unpleasant surprise: Alicia had a pair of gold studs in her ears. The parents hadn't come to an agreement yet about getting their daughter's ears pierced, so the father was furious. "I demanded to know what had happened and she said they decided to 'make a day of it' and just get them done," the father said. "I felt pure rage and immediately removed the earrings and threw them away."
This action only made the wife upset, and she told her husband that he was being "totally disrespectful." The couple weren't able to reconcile their differences by the end of the night and the wife slept in their spare room, refusing to speak to her husband. "As far as I'm concerned I did the right thing," the man said. "She got them pierced without asking me (or more importantly, ASKING ALICIA), so I took them out, because our baby doesn't need bits of metal sticking out of her ears."
Reddit users were on the father's side and were quick to chime in with their own opinions on getting a baby's ears pierced. One user replied, "Your daughter's well-being is more important than her having a shiny rock in her ears." Another user commented, "Let the holes close up and let her decide when she's older. Also, at an older age, she can communicate if something is wrong and if it hurts. A baby will only cry, and they do that anyway, and if there's nothing visibly wrong with the piercings you might not notice at all or realize it's that."
