Courteney Cox On ‘Pressure’ Of Aging Youthfully & Her Cosmetic Procedures

Feb 26, 2022 by apost team

Courteney Cox rose to fame as the hilarious Monica Geller on the beloved sitcom, "Friends," which aired from 1994 to 2004. Even after the series ended, Cox continued to be a big player in Hollywood. She starred in the series "Dirt" and "Cougar Town," and has appeared in many movies over the years including the "Scream" franchise. Outside of her acting work, Cox is known for her close friendship with "Friends" alum Jennifer Aniston. The two often show their support for one another's work.

In her personal life, Cox was married to fellow actor David Arquette for over 11 years. The couple got married in June 1999 and had a daughter named Coco Arquette in 2004. Coco is now 17 years old and practically looks like her mother's twin. However, sadly Cox's relationship with David didn't last and the two finalized their divorce in 2013 after three years of separation. Nevertheless, they remain close and are still business partners together in their production company, Coquette Productions.

Well known for her gorgeous looks, Cox is often in the spotlight. Despite the fact that she's absolutely stunning, she wasn't immune to the Hollywood pressure of trying to remain youthful-looking. This led her to seek out cosmetic procedures including facial fillers which ultimately resulted in a look that was almost unrecognizable.

After some time, the actress decided to dissolve the fillers and is instead opting for a much more natural look. Since then, Cox has been very candid about her procedures and has even shared some of her regrets in an interview in February 2022.

In a 2017 interview with New Beauty, Cox opened up about the work she'd had done, which she explained was a result of "trying so hard to keep up" as a woman getting older in Hollywood. She admitted that she "actually made things worse" in her quest to remain youthful.

She told the publication:

"I've had all my fillers dissolved. I'm as natural as can be. I feel better because I look like myself. I think that I now look more like the person that I was."

The actress added that she's accepted that physical changes will happen as we get older and there's nothing wrong with that. She said:

"Things are going to change. Everything's going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake. You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren't wrinkles — they're smile lines. I've had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend."

The actress also talked about how the way of life in Hollywood normalizes the process of constantly getting new work done. She said that one doctor would suggest "a little injection here or filler there" but "then somebody tells you about another doctor" who recommends other work.

Back in 20156, Cox also admitted to having regretted getting work done, and explained that “there’s a pressure to maintain (your looks) not just because of fame, but just being a woman in this business…” Nowadays, Cox hasn’t completely ruled out future treatments but does “want to stay natural.”

Speaking with the Sunday Times in February 2022, Cox talked more about her decision to get fillers, but admitted that the cosmetic procedure ended up making her look “really strange.” She explained,

“There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older.’ And I tried to chase that (youthfulness) for years.”

However, the constant talk and attention her new appearance received is eventually what led Cox to reverse her procedures. “People would talk about me, I think,” the actress said,

“There was a period where I went, ‘I’ve got to stop. That’s just crazy.’”

Today, Cox is 57 years old and is doing her best to embrace her natural features. Still, she has talked about how hard it is constantly being under the microscope, not just as a woman in Hollywood, but as a woman who is getting older. “The scrutiny is intense, but I don’t know if it could be more intense than what I put on myself,” she explained.

Cox also explained how hard it is to believe that she’ll be 60 in just a few years, but is grateful for the lessons she’s learned along the way. She said:

“It’s so hard to even hear or say. I can’t believe it. There’s nothing wrong with being 60, I just can’t believe it. Time goes by so fast.”

Cox added, “There’s no question that I am more grounded, I’ve learned so much in my life – what to enjoy, what to try to do more of and what to let go of.”
