Cop Captures Hearts With ‘Smooth As Silk’ Performance Of Lionel Richie Classic In His Patrol Car

The internet is full of videos that amaze people from all over the world. The sheer talent that some people possess can capture someone’s heart instantly, and police officer Philip Paz from Oklahoma City proved to be no exception to that.

Along with being a police officer, Paz showcased just how much he loves to perform. As an actor and singer, Paz began to upload videos of himself performing scenes on social media back in 2015. Then in 2018, he posted another video where he sang a famous Lionel Richie song for the camera while he was stationed in his patrol car.

The result took the internet by storm.

In the majority of his YouTube Videos, the cop could be seen wearing a hat with an American flag on it as he passionately sang his heart out. A few videos showed glimpses into Paz’s life as a police officer as he uploaded covers captured in his cop car. 

Most of the songs he covered were originally released by country music artists, such as Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, or rock artists like Tom Petty. However, Paz proved to have quite an eclectic taste in music when he took on a classic by the Commodores. 

It was clear that the energetic police officer knew all of the words to the hit song by heart. He did not disappoint his newfound fans as he crooned “Easy” by the Commodores — the group Richie was the co-lead singer of during the 1970s and 1980s.

The song “Easy” by the Commodores with notable frontman Richie was released in 1977. The track soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles Chart during that summer and also hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

While Richie sang “easy like Sunday morning” in the popular song, Paz just as effortlessly hit every note in his soulful rendition of the tune. The cop didn’t miss a beat, and it’s safe to say that Richie himself would most likely be proud to hear what a wonderful voice the first responder held. Paz continued to sing the song almost perfectly, right down to the very last note.

Despite knowing the song down to its every lick, Paz also found a way to make it his own version as he put real soul and passion behind each word and seemingly resonated with the lyrics.

Listeners could not believe what they heard when they stumbled across Paz’s heartfelt video, which has continued to capture hearts despite its upload being from 2018. The video garnered plenty of attention, surmounting 6,000 likes and 243,000 views. Fans of the talented cop took to the comment section to praise him for his vocal abilities and encouraged him to always share his talent with the world.

One person complimented the cop’s voice and said, “Smooth as silk.” Another agreed and said, “Sir you have one of the most smooth, richest voices I’ve ever heard !”
