Comedian Says His 100-Square-Foot Apartment Is New York City’s Smallest — A Look Inside

Living in New York City is seen as a great opportunity and experience by many of its residents. There are ample job opportunities and people to meet, and there always seems to be something new and fun to do, making the city a great location to live. However, all of this excitement comes with a price, as New York is notorious for its high rent prices and small apartments.

Ron Ervin is a comedian who currently lives in an apartment in West Harlem. Although it’s called the Big Apple, it appears that Ervin has a pretty small pad. In fact, he even went viral in January 2022 for showing off just how tiny his apartment is, claiming that it’s actually one of the smallest pads in the entire city.

Back in December 2021, model and aspiring actor AJ Webber went to TikTok to show everyone just how small his apartment in the East Village is, claiming that it was the smallest in the city. However, Ervin was quick to shoot his claims down by showing how the structure and layout of his own space actually made his pad the smaller apartment.

Although Ervin is a comedian, it was clear that the way he utilizes his space is no laughing matter. In fact, it’s quite impressive to see just how much Ervin is able to fit into such a tiny room, proving that he truly knows how to optimize every inch of the 100-square-foot space. For reference, the Wall Street Journal reports that a typical dorm room in the United States is about 180-square-feet. Ervin’s rent is $950 per month, earning him just over 1-square-foot per dollar.

Ervin is continuing to shock people with his tiny apartment, which he claims is one of the smallest in New York City, according to the New York Post. He went viral on TikTok in early January 2022 for showing off his residence. In fact, his room is so small that he usually spends time with his friends outside. “When I bring guests over, we pretty much just hang out in the backyard, Ervin said. “We come inside for a minute to look at my tiny apartment, say, ‘Oh, that’s funny,’ then we head back outside.”

According to the New York Post, Ervin first moved to the city in February 2021 and found his apartment on Craigslist for $950 a month. The 6-foot-2 man looks almost comical in his 100-square-foot apartment, but it’s clear that he’s learned how to really optimize his space. He can’t fit a queen-sized mattress in the place he calls home and uses a rolling clothes rack in place of a closet. “I have a little countertop next to the sink on which I placed a $10 hotplate and a George Foreman grill I found in the hallway,” Ervin added. He also shares a hallway bathroom with his neighbors.

“In New York, you’re always out and about so the city is kind of your living room,” Ervin said, as per Pehal News. While the comedian seems to enjoy the simplicities of life, he has since upgraded his living space. In a TikTok from Jan. 28, 2022, Ervin revealed that he has since moved and now lives in a bigger apartment with more amenities for a reduced price, and was more than happy to show off his private bathroom.
