Colorado Mom Adopts One-Year-Old Child Upon Discovering She Was Fostering Son's Biological Sibling

Colorado resident Katie Page never grew up thinking she would one day become a single mom. But that is exactly what happened when she parted ways with her husband in her early thirties. In 2017, after separating with her husband, Page adopted her first child, Grayson. Only a month later, Page received a call about another newborn named Hannah who needed a home. After Page took Hannah in, she began to speculate whether Grayson and Hannah were siblings — and amazingly, it turns out she was right.

After her divorce, Katie purchased a new home, started a new career, and became a foster mother. She had always had problems with fertility but knew she would adopt children one day as Good Morning America reports.

In 2016, Grayson, a baby boy at the time, was abandoned at a local hospital. The plight of the nameless infant changed the course of Katie's life.

In her interview with GMA, Page said that she fell in love with Grayson the minute she saw him in the hospital. "He's so calm and sweet. He has the biggest challenges of all the kids," Page told the outlet. But it wasn't until May 25, 2017, that Page was finally able to adopt Grayson.

A month afterward, the agency called to tell Page that a second newborn, Hannah, had been abandoned at the same hospital where Grayson was found. This time the infant was a girl.

Page, who decided to foster and later adopt Hannah, brought her home only to discover something shocking. The biological mother's name listed on Hannah's hospital bracelet had the same first name as Grayson's mother did, which got Page thinking.

"[The caseworkers] told me her story, which was really similar to Grayson's," Page said.

"I saw her medical bracelet and the first name of her mother was the same name as Grayson's mom. She didn't have a typical name."

Page explained to the news outlet that Grayson's mother, who was an addict, had lied about her information when she abandoned both children, and therefore it wasn't immediately clear that Grayson and Hannah were related. But once Page dug a bit deeper into the paperwork, glaring similarities began to crop up, and Page ordered a DNA test that would eventually confirm that Hannah and Grayson had the same mother and were siblings.

"I was a single woman in a four-bedroom house and now every room in my house is full," Page said. "It's never dull. People ask me all the time, 'How do you do it?' I never thought I'd have three babies, but God doesn't give you more than you can handle."

“When Jackson came along I just felt the best I could give him are his family and siblings that he identifies and feels connected to,” Page enthused.

As of GMA's 2019 story, Page also added that she even hoped to add another member to the family — Hannah and Grayson's five-month-old sibling. Until then, we can rest assured that Hannah and Grayson are living under the same roof as brother and sister.
