Clint Eastwood's Son Scott Looks Like His Twin

Feb 12, 2021 by apost team

Clint Eastwood is American's beloved cowboy actor, having featured in iconic films that solidified the impact of the Spaghetti Western genre in America and across the world. Although Clint Eastwood is getting older, luckily he has a son who not only bears his likeness but also his acting chops. We've taken a look at his career along with that of his youngest son, Scott Eastwood, and the similarities between the two are striking.

Beginnings Before Hollywood

While Clint Eastwood is a Hollywood mainstay, his roots are rather humble. He's a self-made movie star and his biography proves it. Born on May 31, 1930, in San Francisco, California, Clint Eastwood's family grew up in a wealthy area of town in a house that had a swimming pool, while each parent had their own car and the family belonged to a country club. His father was a manufacturing executive at Georgia-Pacific, while his mother worked in a clerical role at IBM

As a young man, Clint Eastwood worked in a range of odd jobs including as a lifeguard, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, golf caddy, and paper carrier. While he attempted to enroll at Seattle University in 1951, he was instead drafted into the United States Army during the middle of the Korean War. He never served overseas, however, with his former partner Sondra Locke once stating:

"He always dropped the Korean War reference, hoping everyone would conclude that he was in combat and might be some sort of hero. Actually, he'd been a lifeguard at Fort Ord in northern California for his entire stint in the military."

Incidentally, it was his time stationed at Fort Ord that led to his career in Hollywood. Although the exact story of how he caught the attention of notable people in the film industry is disputed, he eventually made it to the audition process, and while prominent producer Arthur Lubin was impressed with his looks, he disapproved of Clint Eastwood's acting. Nonetheless, he signed an acting contract in 1954 that included attending drama classes.

After many auditions, Clint Eastwood didn't have much luck, until he finally got a bit-part in his first movie, Revenge of the Creature (1955). A number of other small roles followed, but his contract eventually ran out and wasn't renewed. However, that didn't stop the budding actor, who continually put in the work with minor roles, until eventually, he landed a breakthrough part in 1958 as Rowdy Yates in the western series Rawhide. The series aired for five years before being canceled, but his work on Rawhide led to the movie that would put him on the map.

Clint Eastwood was being nominated and winning awards for his acting from as early on as 1961 when he won the Bronze Wrangler award for the TV drama Rawhide at the Western Heritage Awards. From his role as John Lucas in the TV western series Death Valley Days to his poncho-wearing days in a popular movie trilogy, the actor has been known as the tough guy with a heart of gold in a long list of westerns. He portrayed a gunslinging hero in Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The three westerns formed a trilogy written and directed by Sergio Leone.

Looking Like A Legend

Clint Eastwood's character as "the Good" was one of his most popular and influential roles. In an interview with Empire back in 2017, Clint Eastwood reflected on his days in acting in "the Good" role and working with director Sergio Leone. He said:

"Sergio was terrific for me...I was a big fan of John Ford, and Sergio was too, but his approach was so different: he had no restrictions, he'd kind of go off and do what he wanted even if it was somewhat satirical. It was certainly different from me."

Clint Eastwood looked back on his earlier Hollywood days with clarity as he told Empire:

"I was the young guy who didn't have to worry too much."

Now Clint Eastwood isn't the only young cowboy in the family. His son Scott Eastwood is following suit and the young actor is even aware of his likeness to his father. Scott Eastwood even played-up their similarities by dressing just like his father's past character. According to Today, the younger Eastwood donned a poncho and cigar à la The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for Halloween in 2016. Son Scott Eastwood looked almost identical to how his father Clint Eastwood looked in the iconic 1996 Spaghetti Western film.

A Family Affair

Clint Eastwood continued his reign as king of the contemporary western in the seventies when he famously urged the townsfolk to paint the town red in 1973's High Plains Drifter. He not only was the star but he also directed the movie. Although he continued working on westerns throughout the decade, he also became well-known for roles outside the genre. The actor even served as mayor of Carmel, California in the late 1980s, according to clinteastwood.net. Clint Eastwood has been honored with many accolades during his lengthy career including Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and the Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement, among numerous other film awards. He's even been honored with two of France's highest civil orders—the Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion of Honour medal. Some of his other noteworthy activities during this time including becoming a father to Scott Eastwood and daughter Kathryn Eastwood. Clint Eastwood's other children include Kimber, Kyle, Alison, Francesca, and Morgan Eastwood

As well as a life full of career highs and lows—within acting and other professional endeavors—Clint Eastwood has also had a personal life that's been just as robust. His eight children––born between 1964 and 1996—are from a string of different relationships. In December 2018, Clint Eastwood, all eight of his children, his ex-wife Maggie Johnson, and his current girlfriend Christina Sandera all attended the premiere of his movie The Mule together—talk about a big family!

Out of his children, Clint Eastwood has a lot in common with Scott Eastwood, and they even reflected on their influences on each other in a 2016 joint interview with Esquire. Scott Eastwood told Esquire:

"My father's definitely old-school. And he raised me with integrity—to be places on time, show up, and work hard."

When the magazine even played with the idea that Clint Eastwood could be Scott Eastwood's wingman — since he certainly inherited good looks from his father — Clint Eastwood joked:

"I could be the driver—the Uber guy saying, "I used to be in films years ago… ."

Scott Eastwood went on to humbly describe just how new he is to Hollywood in comparison to his father. He said:

"What I've discovered from working with my father is that I'm still learning. I'm just a kid in this business. But film is much more of a director's medium. And I've seen from my father transitioning into being a director, that's where the power lies. And, like he says, it's feast or famine for an actor. If you're not creating your own material, then you're just fighting for whatever's out there. I definitely have the desire to go to the other side."

While some of his siblings also entered the acting arena, Scott Eastwood is the best-known among the Eastwood brood. Scott Eastwood began working under his mom's surname, Reeves, to avoid riding his father's coattails. According to a 2017 interview with CinemaBlend, he auditioned for many of his father's movies, but he did not get cast in every one. The actor was quick to point out that he did not pass every audition despite his family ties as he said:

"Here's the thing, he's put me in a few movies. I've auditioned for a lot and haven't gotten a lot."

Scott Eastwood elaborated on this further—albeit in a joking way—when he appeared on Conan in 2017. After explaining that he does in fact have to audition for his father's movies, he said to host Conan O'Brien: "I don't think he likes me in his movies...Gran Torino came around where he was talking s**t to me, it was like this little role." O'Brien interjects adding, "His character is supposed to give your character a hard time?" To which Scott Eastwood replies: "Yeah exactly...so he gave me that role and on the day we were shooting it there's a lot of stuff that came out that wasn't on the script there." At this point, the audience erupts in laughter as Scott Eastwood's face acts as the punchline to the joke. We're sure Clint Eastwood doesn't cast his son only to get rid of pent up aggression towards the things he put him through when he was younger, but it's a funny idea to think about!

Scott Eastwood has caused many a cinephile to do double-takes. The Clint Eastwood lookalike appeared in Trouble with the Curve, Flags of Our Fathers, Suicide Squad, Invictus, Pacific Rim: Uprising, The Forger, and Gran Torino. His resume even includes a cowboy movie, a romance called The Longest Ride.

One double-take moment that was especially a fan favorite was a video that appeared on YouTube and included Scott Eastwood sharing both a family story and an impression of his famous dad.

Scott Eastwood is just one of many siblings in the Eastwood family. Although many of Clint Eastwood's brood of children are only half-siblings, they indeed appear very close, often posting photos with each other and supporting one another on social media. That's a testament to their parenting styles that have taught them the importance of family

Closer Weekly reported that an inside source confirmed the Hollywood icon "keeps in touch with all eight of his children and their families." The source went on and said, "he's taken great comfort that at this time of his life, all his kids are close." That seems to be apparent, especially after every single one, as well as his ex-wife and current girlfriend, all turned up for the premiere of The Mule. To see them all coming out in support of their father and he for them is truly a wonderful sight to behold.

Clint Eastwood has achieved so much in his long and storied life and career. You'd be mistaken for not realizing he was 90, considering the rate at which he continues to act and direct. The Hollywood veteran even touched on his age while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019. After being asked by Ellen Degeneres what his thoughts were on aging, Clint Eastwood replied "I don't think about it." He then elaborated on the topic, saying:

“I sometimes think, when I was a little kid and I used to hang out with my grandfather who was in his 90s, and I thought, ‘Jesus, who the h— would want to live this long," as he laughed.

Well, Degeneres had the last word when she quipped, "Turns out you do." We're sure Clint Eastwood didn't think about getting to 90 as he was busy living such a full life along the way. But seeing him at that age, still working and still going strong is truly an inspiration to everyone. And thankfully, he's been able to live long enough to witness his son Scott Eastwood begin to make waves in Hollywood just as he did a long time ago.

Carrying on a family legacy can be rewarding and meaningful, but when your family legacy is the iconic Eastwood filmmaking lineage, there's a lot to uphold. It's no wonder that a number of Clint Eastwood's children have chosen to honor their father by following him into show business. While we're sure it's not the last we've seen of Clint Eastwood's career yet, we're just as looking forward to seeing what the next Eastwood generation, led by Scott Eastwood, will have in store for us.
