Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will soon appear in the remake of “A Star Is Born.” While we wait in anticipation for the new film, Lady Gaga recently released an interview about her struggle with fibromyalgia. This chronic condition can cause excruciating pain in the nerves and joints.
The Pain of Fibromyalgia
For millions of fibromyalgia suffers, daily life is a constant struggle. One of the worst things about this condition is that other people are unaware that it even exists. Some doctors will teenage doubt that their patients are being honest about their pain. From doctors to the general public, many people do not believe that this dreaded disease actually exists. Because the pain is hidden in your body, other people cannot see your illness as they do with a broken arm.

Lady Gaga is one of the few celebrities to open up about this disease. In the interview, she talked about how the disease is connected to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and trauma. While researchers do not know the cause of fibromyalgia, they have discovered a connection between the disease and traumatic events. In Lady Gaga's case, she believes that the disease was triggered in her teenage years. Over time, her fibromyalgia has worsened because of the stress of her music career.
Living With Fibromyalgia
For Lady Gaga, the anxiety, stress and depression connected with her fibromyalgia turn send her nervous system into overdrive mode. This ends up causing worse nerve and joint pain. The International Association for the Study of Pain has also found that PTSD is a leading risk factor for developing fibromyalgia.
For years, doctors thought that fibromyalgia was just in the patient's head. Finally, they are starting to realize that this disease is actually real. While patients are relieved that doctors are finally believing them, they are still no closer to finding a cure.
Lady Gaga's fibromyalgia was difficult because she felt like no one would believe her. She finally came out about her disease and her history of PTSD. Unfortunately, there are still many people who do not believe that she actually has fibromyalgia.
Previously, the legendary singer has had to cancel her tour dates because of the pain. She has also canceled performances because of an ongoing hip injury. After she canceled a series of performances, Lady Gaga finally opened up about her mental and physical health struggles. Her Instagram post detailed her ongoing struggles with chronic diseases.
Lady Gaga's experience shows the very real struggle that people with fibromyalgia have faced. Some of her fans have accused of her of being dramatic, playing the victim and trying to get out of her tour dates. Unfortunately, many people with fibromyalgia understand her experience too well. When you have an invisible disease, people think that you are making up your symptoms.
Currently, doctors do not know for sure what causes fibromyalgia. They also do not have a cure or the chronic disease. The only treatments for fibromyalgia are antidepressants and painkillers. These might relieve the symptoms temporarily, but they do not cure them.
