Childless Russian Couple Adopts Orphaned Bear When He Is 3 Months Old, Still Lives With Them 25 Years Later

It’s a common choice for couples without children to look at adoption as a means to have a child. However, some couples decide to take another approach. This Russian couple did something extremely out of the ordinary when they decided to start their family with an unusual suspect.

You probably think of sharing your home with a grizzly bear that can weigh around 300 pounds as a crazy thought. You might think this unique situation is dangerous and overwhelming, but for this couple, they wouldn’t change a thing. The couple, Yuriy and Svetlana, share their home with a 25-year-old grizzly bear and can’t imagine their life any other way.

Their bear stands at 7-feet tall, feet above the couple. In fact, he could be more compared to a center in the NBA’s starting lineup. However, Yuriy and Svetlana are not intimidated by the bear.

No matter how threatening and intimidatingly large the bear right be, they maintain that he is as domesticated and well-behaved as a dog.

The couple’s bear is so well behaved that he enjoys watching television with them.

They have also trained him to help water the plants and do other household chores with Yuriy. But living with a bear isn’t all fun and games. Because the bear is so large and such an unusual pet, he requires much of their time, money and energy. When it comes to mealtime, the bear, named Stepan, requires 25-30 kilograms of fish, eggs, and vegetables every single day.

Stepan was adopted by the couple when he was only three months old. Over the past 25 years, he has become part of their family that they couldn’t imagine living without and they see him as their son.
