Charlize Theron is a name known among the top Hollywood celebrities of all time. The actress has put her stamp on the film industry for over two decades and continues to go strong. Theron is also known as one of the highest-paid Hollywood actresses and has starred in various blockbusters like “The Old Guard,” “Atomic Blonde,” and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” among others.

Aside from being an Academy Award winner with exceptional acting skills, especially in the action genre, Theron has also been the face of Dior for nearly two decades. Her stunning features are as iconic as her impressive career. The “Fast X” actress had an interview with Allure on Aug. 18, 2023, where she addressed the rumors of plastic surgery. She opened up about beauty standards and the effects of maturity.

Undoubtedly, Theron is a glamorous screen goddess, as seen from her many appearances in Dior’s J’Adore perfume advertisements. At 48 and with two kids, Theron has managed to stay gorgeous throughout the years. She has portrayed several characters throughout the years, which made her one of the most renowned actresses in the past decades.

Theron has played various characters with diverse shapes and personalities. Like any other roles in Hollywood, actors have to work hard to look like those characters that they would breathe life into. Unfortunately for Theron, and pretty much many women in Hollywood, she had to gain (and lose) weight just to get into a role. Keep on reading to learn more about Theron and the criticism she has received throughout the years with regard to cosmetic surgery and shedding weight.

According to IMDBTheron already has 70 acting credits up her belt. Many have attributed being an action star to Arnold SchwarzeneggerSylvester StalloneKeanu ReevesBruce Willis and Jason Statham, but only a few have recognized the brilliance of female action stars.

Theron is one of the most prominent female action stars, at par with the likes of Uma ThurmanMichelle Yeoh, and even Sigourney Weaver. Throughout her career, she has portrayed strong female leads.

Most notably, Theron is known for her critically acclaimed role of Imperator Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” It has been called one of the greatest action films ever made

“Charlize Theron delivers a captivating, challenging performance as Furiosa, arguably her best since Monster,” a critic wrote. She was also lauded by women studies scholars for brilliantly portraying complex and atypical female characters like Furiosa. Theron won a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in her role.

Aside from being a decorated actress, Theron is also a mother to two adopted kids, Jackson and August. It has not been easy juggling her career as a model, actress, and producer while caring for two kids. However, like everyone else, the mother-of-two wants her children to be proud of her achievements.

In the interview with Allure, Theron talked about a walk she had with her oldest child past one of her Dior J’Adore topless ads. She shared that her oldest “was just so embarrassed” because Theron was “not even wearing a shirt.” As of August 2023, the “Long Shot” actress was also slated to be the face seen in ads as Dior set to launch L’Or de J’Adore, which is a reinvention of J’Adore perfume.

Theron is embracing the changes on her face that come with age and maturity. Like many women in Hollywood, many have criticized Theron for allegedly getting plastic surgery. Theron addressed the rumors in an interview with Allure

“My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and aging ... People think I had a facelift. They’re like, ‘What did she do to her face?’ I’m like, ‘B**ch, I’m just aging! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.”

The actress also pointed out the unfair gender principles. She noted that while men are viewed to “age like fine wines,” women aging is viewed “like cut flowers.” The actress continued that she “despises that concept” and wants to fight against it. She added that she thinks women want to age in a way that “feels right to them.” Theron also pointed out the need to be emphatic as we all go through our journey.

In a 2012 interview Theron had with Interview Magazine, she shared her view of seeking cosmetic procedures. At the time, she shared that she would not have any cosmetic procedure at that age but might reconsider after three decades. She said:

“I look in the mirror and my face is changing, and I have a different relationship all of a sudden with myself. Your face changes, things change — that’s just kind of what happens.”

Theron also added, “It’s hard, though, in this industry because I think so much importance is put on how you look.” The Oscar winner relayed that she was “also human” and, therefore, experiences changes in her appearance. However, that would not change her from being the amazing actress and beauty goddess we all know.

Theron has spoken strongly against staying in shape to bag roles in Hollywood. In the same interview with Allure, Theron revealed that she would be declining roles if it required her to change her weight in the future.

“I will never, ever do a movie again and say, ‘Yeah, I’ll gain 40 pounds.’ I will never do it again because you can’t take it off,” she confessed. “When I was 27, I did Monster. I lost 30 pounds, like, overnight. I missed three meals and I was back to my normal weight.”

According to Theron, she still finds the discrimination against female actors needing to get in shape for a particular role, describing it as “hard.”

“I’ve always found it so funny when I’ve gained weight for movies and then had to go onto a red carpet,” she told the outlet.

Theron also had to gain weight for a role. In her movie “Tully,” she had to gain 50 pounds just to get into the role.

“I just I wanted to feel what this woman felt, and I think that was a way for me to get closer to her and get into that mindset. You know, it was a huge surprise to me. I got hit in the face pretty hard with depression. Yeah, for the first time in my life I was eating so much processed foods and I drank way too much sugar. I was not that fun to be around on this film,” Theron told Entertainment Tonight

For some, eating might more might just be a walk in the park. However, Theron said that while she had “fun” in the first three weeks, after that, she had to set an alarm in the middle of the night just to eat more to maintain her weight.
