Charlize Theron Looks Transformed After Ditching Blonde Locks For Bright Red Hair

Charlize Theron is a South African actress who gained American citizenship in 2007. Theron is one of Hollywood's highest-paid performers, and her work has received critical acclaim as well as commercial success. The star first rose to fame in the 1990s when she appeared in the films "The Devil's Advocate," "Mighty Joe Young" and "The Cider House Rules." She gained attention in 2003 when she won the Academy Award for best actress for playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the film "Monster." She was the first South African to win an Oscar for an acting category.

Some of Theron's other films include "Hancock," "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Prometheus" and "Mad Max: Fury Road." The actress produced a number of movies that she also starred in, like "The Burning Plain," "Dark Places" and the romantic comedy "Long Shot." 

She has won various accolades throughout her illustrious career. She earned an Academy Award for Best Actress with two other nominations in the same category, three BAFTA nominations, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, among many other critics awards. 

Theron is known for her blonde short blonde hair and her ageless beauty. At 47 and with two kids, Theron has managed to stay gorgeous throughout the years. She has portrayed several characters throughout the years, which made her one of the most renowned actresses in the past decades.

According to IMDB, Theron already has 70 acting credits up her belt. Many have attributed being an action star to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Keanu Reeves, Bruce Willis and Jason Statham, but only a few have recognized the brilliance of female action stars. 

Theron is one of the most prominent female action stars, at par with the likes of Uma Thurman, Michelle Yeoh, and even Sigourney Weaver. Throughout her career, she has portrayed strong female leads. 

Most notably, Theron is known for her critically-acclaimed role of Imperator Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” It has been called one of the greatest action films ever made.

She was also lauded by women studies scholars for brilliantly portraying complex and atypical female characters like Furiosa. Theron won a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in her role. 

In “Atomic Blonde,” Theron played a James Bond-esque MI6 agent assassin opposite James McAvoy, taking femininity in action films to a whole different height as she fight thugs in her stilettos. 

Meanwhile, in “Snow White & Huntsman,” Theron delivers a gripping and sharp performance as the evil Queen Raveena. She was praised for embodying the Evil Queen very convincingly. 

"Ravenna hates living in a world where men can feed on women's beauty and then toss them away. She's a fascist of feminism, and Theron's acting has the blood of operatic anger coursing through it,” Entertainment Weekly said in a review of the movie. 

After “Snow White & Huntsman,” Theron also played a different kind of evil in 2022 on “The School for Good and Evil.”

Theron has proven herself to be a versatile actor and that she can play any role excellently, no matter the genre and story. In “The School for Good and Evil,” Theron played Lady Leonora Lesso, the Dean of the School for Evil, opposite Kerry Washington’s Professor Clarissa Dovey, the Dean of the School for Good. 

"Set in the fictional location of the Endless Woods, the novel follows best friends Sophie and Agatha at the titular School for Good and Evil," Collider explained. "The institution helps to train lost children to become fairytale heroes or villains."

However, this role required more than Theron’s exceptional acting skills and experience in portraying an antagonist – it required her to dye her hair red!

In a photo carousel that the actress posted on Instagram on May 19, 2021, Theron shocked her fans as she looked unrecognizable in her red curly hair. In the first photo, Theron’s face was covered by a handheld mirror, but the sunlight in the photo made her hair look more vibrant. 

In the second photo, Theron’s whole face could be seen, but it was blurry, which added more difficulty for her fans to recognize her. To say that she was very in character in the photos would be an understatement. 

Fans were quick to compliment her in the comment section. 

“So sexy with red hair!! 2 more days an release!!!” a fan said at the time. 

“Such a beautiful strong brilliant woman she is a goddess and with the red hair,” another commented. 

“I ask myself the question whether you really changed the color of your hair .... you are incredible ... beautiful …,” someone wrote.
