Céline Dion is a pinnacle name when it comes to the music industry. Her unique vocal tone and impressive singing abilities have helped the star catapult herself into a lifetime of fame and success, with a career spanning four decades. Dion's musical style has grown over the years while still staying pretty consistent with the genres of pop, soft rock, and chanson, French songs that are lyrically driven. Some of her most famous songs include "The Power of Love, "It's All Coming Back To Me Now," and "My Heart Will Go On."
The singer, who is French-Canadian, first started singing in her native French language. In 1980 at the age of 12, she wrote her first song, with the help of her mother and brother Jacques, titled "Ce n'était qu'un rêve." She would go on to record numerous French albums that would become successful in Canada.
In 1988, Dion, who was just 20 years old, was Switzerland's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Ireland. The Canadian-born singer represented the country with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi," which she performed in front of an audience of 600 million TV viewers. She ultimately won the contest.
After decades in show business, Dion has enjoyed international success, and she's still going strong after she released her latest album "Courage" in 2019. Despite her countless number-one hits and award wins, Dion has proven that it takes hard work and dedication to make it to the top of the charts.
However, it seemed like Dion's impact and legacy all suddenly became unnoticed when Rolling Stone, one of the leading music publications worldwide, published their 200 Greatest Singers of All-Time list. Fans of Dion expected to see her there, but to their surprise, she didn't even rank at all.

Rolling Stone published the controversial ranking list, which saw iconic artists like Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, Prince, Freddie Mercury, Otis Redding, Beyonce, Adele, and even Taylor Swift, among many others.
In the story, the publication reiterated to its readers that the list is a "Greatest Singers list," not the "Greatest Voices list."
"Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent. Sure, many of the people here were born with massive pipes, perfect pitch, and boundless range. Others have rougher, stranger, or more delicate instruments," Rolling Stone said. "In all cases, what mattered most to us was originality, influence, the depth of an artist's catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy."
However, the disclaimer did not stop music fans and the many readers of the magazine from reacting negatively when they did not see one of the most prominent singers of recent memory – Dion.
People on social media had been skeptical about the veracity of the list, confused about how the well-revered publication came up with the questionable list.
According to the outlet, they used an "elaborate voting process that included input from well-known musicians."
"The results skewed toward classic rock and singers from the Sixties and Seventies. This new list was compiled [by] our staff and key contributors, and it encompasses 100 years of pop music as an ongoing global conversation," Rolling Stone wrote.
But still, many on social media, particularly Dion's fans, were outraged by the huge snub, which for others – not including Dion on the list, delegitimized the entire list as a whole.

The absence of the 54-year-old singer baffled readers, who believed that everything that the publication set forth as a criterion, Dion surpassed with flying colors.
"Look... you can argue Celine Dion's music is not your cup of tea, and that's fair. You can argue Celine's songs are now irrelevant in today's Billie Eilish generation, and that's also fair. But to say that Celine Dion is not among all-time greatest singers is unbelievable," a fan posted.
"Respectfully, not including Celine Dion, arguably the best vocal technician of all time, in this list is borderline treasonous," another user shared.
"If we are going by the mere definition of vocal abilities, then not having Celine Dion is objectively incorrect and would have nothing to do with taste. If we go by sound, you would still be wrong. Ergo, there are some headscratchers with rankings, inclusions, and omissions," someone pointed out.
Fans of the "Because You Loved Me" singer were angry on social media, even calling out the publication for placing other extremely talented singers and vocalists on a lower placement than others.
"Aside from the total omissions of Adam Lambert, Celine Dion, and Andrea Bocelli, how could this list possibly NOT include the incomparable Nat King Cole? Do better @RollingStone," another commented.
Since the list was posted, Dion has not commented on her exclusion and neither on her loyal fans' outrage over the matter.
Last December 2022, Dion emotionally revealed in a video that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disease that causes her muscle spasms. However, she showed optimism for her future, despite canceling her highly-anticipated "Courage" Tour.
"I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better, and my precious children, who are supporting me and giving me hope," Dion said.
