Elwood is a red and white tabby cat that was hanging around the main entrance of the Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Melbourne, Australia. He would just chill out each day for about a year. He secured the front giving attention to people and pets as they answered. He rested in the bushes. The hospital decided to give Elwood his own security tag on his collar for all of his 'hard' work and made the announcement on August 5.
Visitors noted that it made their day to see an ID badge on this cat. He was no longer a stray cat, but an employee and friend of the hospital. Elwood even had a call code on the back of his ID like the other employees. He only had to hang out and prove himself for a year instead of crafting a perfect resume to get the gig.

It's important to note that Elwood doesn't do any heavy lifting. He does what he's always done. This includes sunning himself and purring at people as they walk through the door. Employees say he's friendly, but not overly affectionate. He likes to keep things pretty surface level like a good employee. He has to make sure everyone going and coming into the hospital is checked out. This means he has to be stern at times.
Initially, the employees did not know where Elwood came from. They wondered if he was a stray cat. He had a security tag, but no one took it off. Did this mean he didn't have an owner?
No, it turned out he lives right across the street from the hospital. He has a family and even has a brother named Jake. The hospital workers noticed he never tried to get into the actual hospital anyway. They started to give him food and water to be kind to him. He's now an official part of the security team.
The employees were asked if he's done a good job. They said potential criminals are probably turned away by his sweet demeanor. He gives them a meow and they melt.
The ironic part of this story is that employing cats might be a trending thing. A bar association called the Order of Attorneys of Brazil actually hired a cat. According to Daily Sabah, Leon the kitten was a stray cat. People started giving complaints about him. They decided to hire Leon as an attorney. Good job to Leon and Elwood for standing up for themselves, showing love, and getting a job.
