Candace Cameron Bure Stands Firm Against Critics Who Blasted Her ‘Inappropriate’ Photo With Husband

Candace Cameron Bure has made the news and come under fire for various reasons, including her statement advocating for “keeping traditional marriage” central to Christmas films. For many reasons, this take has garnered criticism on the internet. However, the “Full House” actress, 48, has also faced backlash for a post uploaded on her Instagram account. The picture was not only viewed by her 5.7 million followers but also grabbed the attention of users who criticized her for the suggestive image as she is an openly Christian celebrity. While some interpreted it as a playful moment captured on camera, others thought it was an inappropriate picture to share on the internet.

Candace has been married to Valeri Bure, a Russian and former ice hockey player for 28 years. The two first met at a hockey game that Valeri was playing in 1994. After dating for two years, the two were married. Since then, they’ve gone into business together and had three children. The actress floods her social media with images of her beautiful family and loving husband. Almost 30 years into their marriage, the couple seems more in love than ever, keeping the spark alive and cementing their place as one of the longest-lasting celebrity marriages. When asked about the reasons for such longevity, the actress attributed it to her faith and never losing their intimacy. In a comment on her Confessions Of A Crappy Christian podcast appearance in November 2020, the actress said: 

“I’ve been married for 24 years. I’m a Christian, my husband’s a Christian, and I’m really proud that we’ve managed to stay married for 24 years. And the fact that we have fun and we flirt together, this is part of what makes our marriage work.”

But just how did this backlash over an Instagram post all come to pass? Well, Candace had initially posted an Instagram Story of her and her husband, which was meant to show a playful couple moment. However, following backlash over that first post, she doubled down on it by reposting it on her feed. The two pictures showed the stunning pair posing in front of a picturesque backdrop of nature. In the second picture, Valeri has his arm around his wife’s shoulder and his hand on her chest. The pose instantly attracted many negative comments from her fans, most criticizing her for being too racy for a Christian. On a podcast, the actress revealed some of the comments, saying:

“Oh that’s so inappropriate that you posted that as a Christian. You should be more modest.”

Despite the backlash over the picture, Candace followed it up with an unapologetic video about the post, gushing over still being playful with her husband after so many years together. Additionally, the mom-of-three used her platform to correct the misconception that her religion does not allow romance. Instead, she clarified that she and her husband can still be religious while keeping the fire alive in their marriage. 

“I’m sorry if it offended you... I’m actually not sorry. I’m glad that we have fun together after all these years. He can touch me all day long,” she said.

If their marriage is anything to go by, then it’s clear that whatever Candace and Valeri do is working for the couple - and the actress won’t hesitate to defend her marriage and their photos together.
