A 90-year-old in 2017 by the name of Vera performed her rewritten version of Patsy Cline's I Fall to Pieces at her birthday party dedicated to fellow seniors which was cleverly named We Fall to Pieces.
Patsy Cline is one of the biggest names in country music history. Despite her short career and early death, Cline released a shocking number of hits. These include classics like Crazy, Sweet Dreams, and Walkin' After Midnight. However, perhaps her best-known song is I Fall to Pieces.
Anatomy of a Hit
Patsy Cline had a unique singing voice that was both crisp and deep. This combination provided her with a tone that was very rich. One reason she became so popular was that her voice was capable of expressing complex emotions in a listenable way. People identified with Patsy's tales of small victories and defeats in the daily life of a normal woman.
In the song I Fall to Pieces Cline is able to really shine. The song tells the story of a woman who has been dumped by a man she still loves. Though he keeps urging her to move on, she still reacts viscerally whenever she sees him with another date. It still gets to her. One sight of him with another woman is enough to ruin her whole day. She tries to overcome this but hasn't quite gotten there yet.

A New, Lighthearted Take
Vera is a spirited lady with lots of spunk. She's a talented musician who still plays the guitar and sings. For her milestone 90th birthday, she wanted to do something special to celebrate.
At her party, she stood in front of everyone with her guitar. She asked everyone if they remembered Patsy Cline and her signature song. Of course, they did. Then Vera told them she had a new version for them.
We Fall to Pieces is less a parody of a Patsy Cline song, and more of a tribute to the process of aging. In singing and joking about the challenges of growing older, Vera did something very similar to what Cline always did during her career.
She took a complex subject and found a way to make it relatable. What's more, Vera even made it funny. That's the kind of coping skill that makes her so beloved among her friends.
