Bruce Willis is one of the most legendary Hollywood actors of all time. He is most famous for his roles in action films but also has quite a diverse set of talents, appearing across various film and television genres. On top of that, Bruce is also adored for his outstanding qualities as a husband and father.

On Mar. 30, 2022, Bruce’s family announced that he would take a break from his career due to health problems. His ex-wife, Demi Moore, announced his diagnosis on Instagram: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.” 

The post ended optimistically with Bruce’s iconic quote: “Live it up.” Following the announcement, Dr. Leah Croll, a neurologist featured on ABC News, explained aphasia as “a language disorder that affects someone’s ability to understand or produce language, or both.” She also noted that conditions like dementia can contribute to aphasia, adding: “There’s a wide spectrum in terms of how severely someone’s ability to communicate may or may not be affected.”

Bruce’s diagnosis later progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD), affecting his language and behavior. In an October 2024 interview with Town & Country, his wife, Emma Heming Willis, explained: “Never in a million years would I think it would be a form of dementia for someone so young.” 

In a rare public gesture since his diagnosis, the “Die Hard” actor showed his appreciation for those on the frontlines of the Los Angeles wildfires and took a moment to express his gratitude.

On Jan. 16, 2025, Emma shared a black-and-white video on Instagram showing her husband, Bruce, shaking hands with two Los Angeles Police Department officers. She captioned the post:

“Spotting a first responder, Bruce never missed a chance to show his gratitude with a heartfelt handshake and a ‘thank you for your service.’ Yesterday was no different.” 

The video of the 69-year-old actor received overwhelming admiration from fans. One Instagram user shared their sincere gratitude for Emma’s update:

“So so so good to see him!!! He looks great. Thank you very much for sharing this video of Bruce….for all of his fans to see. It did my heart so good to see him smile. Thank you, Emma!”

Another user wrote:

“Bruce looks so good!!!!! This makes my heart happy.”
