Britney Spears Says She's Not Scared To Light Matches And Burn Bridges

Britney Spears is sending a clear message to those that have either directly or indirectly contributed to her 13-years-and-counting conservatorship — she is not afraid to oust those people from her life and she won't be playing nice. Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Britney posted an image with a quote that proves she's willing to stand up for herself, no matter the consequences.
This recent post comes after two months of legal proceedings and public support for the pop star, in the face of her horrific conservatorship, wherein her father Jamie Spears has essentially managed her life and finances for over 13 years. The full extent of Britney's situation began to come to light earlier this year after the release of the documentary "Framing Britney Spears" in Feb. 2021 amid the ongoing "Free Britney" movement that calls into question the continued need for her legal conservatorship.
Recent updates have occurred this month when a judge ruled that Britney can choose her own lawyer in the fight to end her conservatorship — a freedom that was only just now allowed to her for the first time in 13 years. This news came as a welcome change for the singer, who had been dealt with a blow after a judge denied her request to end her controversial conservatorship even after her explosive testimony in June.
The attorney Britney herself appointed, Matthew Rosengart, then made a new statement in which he thanked Britney's fans all over the world before announcing that he and his team would be moving very quickly to remove Jamie as conservator.
Britney Spears' message was simple — the pop star wants her freedom after 13 years and she's not afraid of cutting out the people in her life who have contributed to her lack of rights. Posting to Instagram, the pop star uploaded a simple picture of a quote, which reads:
"If standing up for yourself burns a bridge, I have matches. We ride at dawn."
The simple yet effective message proves that Britney is taking full control of her life and has no plans of stopping until she's finally free. Recently, she's been very public about her disapproval of how those closest to her have acted in the face of her conservatorship battle, namely her father, Jamie Spears, and younger sister, Jamie-Lynn Spears.
In a since-deleted post, Britney uploaded another picture of a quote that according to Page Six read: "Never forget who ignored you when you needed them and who helped you before you even asked." In the lengthy accompanying caption, she wrote:
"There’s nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support … there’s nothing worse than that !!!!"
While she didn't name names in that post, many believe it was in reference to her father and sister. In a later Instagram post she did specifically call out Jamie-Lynn:
"I don't like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!!! This conservatorship killed my dreams ..."

But not all of Britney's posts have been related to her conservatorship. One recent photo set depicted the singer's recent trip to Maui — a place that she has come back to a lot over the years. Talking about "the little things" she enjoys, she included photos of her favorite drink, a statue of a "rare white owl," and a video of her at the beach playing in the sand. She included a sweet story in the caption, explaining that before she saw the owl:
"... a beautiful little boy with white blond hair who was two years old screamed at his mamma because he wanted his drink with a straw … it was the most adorable thing ever cause he reminded me of my boys when they were younger 👩👦👦 !!!!"
Britney's carefree posts are in contrast to the severity of her case, which in recent weeks has seen her lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, speak candidly about his and Britney's motion to have Jamie removed as her conservator as soon as possible.
Talking with reporters outside of the Los Angeles Superior Court in late July, Rosengart thanked a number of people and spoke of his plans in the case. He first thanked Britney "for her courage and for her strength" before thanking Britney's fans and supporters around the world for their "outreach and support" of Britney and he and his firm, calling it "overwhelming." Finally, Rosengart spoke clearly about his firm's plans in the case, stating:
"My firm and I are moving aggressively and expeditiously to file a petition to remove Jamie Spears unless he resigns first."
