After 13 years of living under a restrictive conservatorship that controlled her life and fortune, Britney Spears is finally free. The pop star is known for such hits as "Stronger," "Oops!...I Did It Again" and "Toxic." She now has control over her own finances and career.
The #FreeBritney movement has been circulating for years on various social media platforms, with fans urging anyone close to the pop star to help her with the legal issues surrounding her personal life and career.
The movement reached a new wave of supporters after the 2021 documentary "Framing Britney Spears" was released. The film depicted how much Spears has been struggling to get legal control over her own life, as her father was her conservator, meaning that he had legal control over the majority of her assets and life decisions, including having another child.
As the #FreeBritney movement gained mainstream popularity in 2021, Spears saw an outpouring of support from stars like Dolly Parton and Lance Bass of NSYNC — not to mention her fans online. Spears has been keeping her supporters updated on her well-being throughout the process.
Spears has kept her Instagram page updated from time to time, even posting photos and videos of herself being extremely vulnerable as she cries, dances and twirls, even while she’s only in her undergarments.
On Aug. 11, 2023, Spears took to the social media platform again to share a video of her dancing wildly and freely again while wearing only undergarments and a cropped long-sleeve top. Read on to learn more about Spears and what she did in the video.

During a 24-minute-long testimony that she gave in front of a probate judge at the end of June 2021, Spears accused her conservators of forcing her to perform against her will, making her take mood-stabilizing drugs and keeping her on birth control despite her wishes to have another baby.
On Nov. 12, 2021, a judge announced the final verdict in Spears's case. "As of today, the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated," Judge Brenda Penny said, according to the Associated Press.
Ever since she was freed from conservatorship and had gotten full control of her Instagram account, Spears had been very expressive of her thoughts and her feelings, may it be through words or through dancing and performing.
A quick scroll on Spears’ Instagram account would expose one to almost a hundred videos of her dancing joyously, unfazed by all the criticism and concerns that people have thrown at her. Perhaps the biggest concern that anyone may have is her mental well-being, with people worrying if her traumatic experience while being placed in a conservatorship had greatly affected her.
Spears has since clarified that she is “totally fine,” and explained more about her “bizarre” dance videos:
"Yes, I'm totally fine,. I'm extremely happy, I have a beautiful home, beautiful children. I'm taking a break right now because I'm enjoying myself.”
Despite the clarifications and explanations, many fans of Spears still could not help but worry about her well-being as they continued to spot more indications that she might be suffering.

In a post dated April 5, 2023, Spears, who seemed to be in high spirits, danced and strutted in front of a pink graffiti wall she stumbled across while driving.
“I was hot in my car,” she wrote in the caption. “saw some pink graffiti and played !!!”
Fans expressed worry about Spears’ condition, suggesting she might be suffering or struggling with something that could have prompted the perceived erratic behavior.
It wasn’t the last time that Spears went on social media to show off her dance skills. In fact, she posted another video on Aug. 11, 2023, where she was seen dancing, in her undergarments, and a white cropped long-sleeve top. Dancing, spinning and jumping comfortably as she grooved to what could be heard as a rock song, Spears liberally smacked her bottom as she felt the need to during the chaotic video.
At one point, she even flipped a finger onto the screen, venting out her frustration. She captioned the video: “Ok so I was a little p*ssed 😤 this day 😒😒😒😒😒😒 !!!” – which was pretty much the emotion she wanted to evoke in the dance video she published. Comments on the video were turned off, but it has since amassed more than 270,000 likes as of press time.
Meanwhile, experts have since given their opinion on Spears’ dancing on social media. The Daily Mail spoke to Caroline Strawson, a trauma-informed therapist and coach, who suggests that it might be a response to the trauma she had before.
“She learnt from a very early age that her sense of worth was wrapped up in singing, dancing and earning money. This is why many celebrities go on to have these very public trauma responses because it’s their nervous system driven to protect them from pain,” she revealed.
