Bride’s Decision To Bake Her Own Wedding Cake Leaves People Divided

A wedding cake is one of the most significant aspects of a marriage ceremony. Thus, the couple always ensures they get the best results based on their budget. Wedding cakes leave lasting memories in the minds of the guests and the couple. Hence, it helps if the cake is baked properly and has an amazing appearance and unforgettable taste. 

With all these aspects in consideration, pastry chefs know better than to mess up a client’s wedding cake. However, what happens when the bride-to-be is a pastry chef? Would she decide to bake the cake herself or have another pastry chef do it? 

Pastry chef Lilly Kinman was caught in that kind of situation ahead of her wedding to Dennis Mendoza. The couple tied the knot in Altamonte Springs, Florida, in May 2023. Ahead of her big day, Kinman felt it would be a great idea to bake her wedding cake by herself and went ahead to do just that. Kinman’s cake-baking moments were captured on camera. 

On May 21, 2023, a hairstylist named Adrianna Thomas shared a behind-the-scenes video of Kinman baking her wedding cake and the final result. However, the video received mixed reactions as some trolls were not enthused by the end result and didn’t hold back in expressing their displeasure.

On May 21, 2023, Adrianna Thomas shared a video that showed Kinman, her friend and soon-to-be bride, baking her wedding cake. In the 27-second clip, Kinman was clad in a white robe and already had her hair and makeup done. 

However, that didn’t deter her from baking her wedding cake with love and happiness with her bridesmaids’ assistance. The video had an overlay text that read, “When your bride is a pastry chef, and makes her own wedding cake! 🔥” Thomas also captioned the post: 

“I have the most unique and talented brides!!!😍👏🏾 Lilly stacked her own wedding cake the day of, full face, hair done and white robe! 👏🏾 not 1 crumb on her robe!”

So far, the video has received over 7 million views and more than 1600 comments. However, the reactions to it have been divisive, with many trolls slamming the bride. One of the trolls wrote: 

“Uhhh..sorry but that’s ugly asf 😂😂 doesn’t look finished. U should have hired someone.” 

Another troll asked why the cake had a blue layer at the bottom, adding that it looked messy, while a third person said Kinman should have hired a professional rather than baking the cake herself. 

Yet, while there were many who felt it was right to criticize the beautiful bride’s cake and effort, others were supportive of her decision and lauded her. One such person wrote: 

“It's a great idea she's the only one who can realize the cake she wanted perfectly.”

A second person said they loved Kinman’s move, adding that the gesture would be so special to her spouse because she made the cake with love. A third person concluded, “I love that she will be able to look back and say she did her own wedding cake.”
