She might be small in stature, but bold East Hollywood crossing guard Adrian Young is unshakable. Standing at a modest 4 feet 8 inches, Adrian is not much taller than many of the children she assists crossing the street to and from school every week.

Recently, she proved just how mighty she is and how heroes come in all sizes.

While working, she encountered an 8-year-old girl saying, “Please help me Ms. Crossing Guard. Please help me.”

Knowing something was amiss, Adrian acted instantly. She quickly instructed the frightened child to hold onto her. Just then, the woman with the child went on the offensive.

When recounting the incident, Young said,

“I just told her to grab onto me as tight as she could, and I held onto her and the lady just began to attack me, so I just thought about attacking her to make sure she can’t take this little girl.”

Happily, she was able to thwart the kidnapping and reunite the girl with her grateful mother, Sharon.

She said, “If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t know where my daughter would be.”

Adrian was rightly honored in her community for her heroism, and the kidnapper was arrested and jailed.

On the day Young was honored, city councilman Mitch O’Farrell stated, “Sometimes superheroes come in small packages.”

Quick-thinking and bravery saved a small child in this remarkable instance. Remind others to always be alert to the needs of children in the community by giving them the opportunity to learn about Adrian’s fearlessness and compassion and showing them this video.
