Even though the movie “A Star is Born” was released in 2018, it has continued making waves years later as fans continue to stream and listen to the songs produced by Mark Ronson, which featured the amazing voice of Lady Gaga mixed with the husky and country-like vocals of Bradley Cooper.
In 2023, it was revealed that the actor wanted one of the pop star’s songs from her 2016 album “Joanne” to be included in the movie, but the music producer refused it. Before we tackle the whole incident, let’s take a look at the actors who starred in the critically-acclaimed movie.
Bradley Charles Cooper was born on Jan. 5, 1975. The actor is of Irish and Italian ancestry and has one older sister named Holly. His late father, Charlie Cooper, was a Merrill Lynch stockbroker, while his mother, Gloria Campano Cooper, worked with the local NBC affiliate in Pennsylvania.
Making his film debut in 2001 with "Wet American Hot Summer," Cooper worked extremely hard in the industry to take his place in the film world. However, the actor skyrocketed to fame almost overnight with the success of "The Hangover," from which he made $600,000, and then a cool $5 million for the sequel in 2011, according to Hello! Magazine.
On the other hand, Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was born on March 28, 1986. Ever since she was a kid, the singer had been fascinated by music.
Although she’s popularly known for being one of the most successful musicians of the 21st century as well as for her over-the-top fashion, Lady Gaga also made her way to the world of film and television.
Some of Lady Gaga’s most popular film and television credits include “American Horror Story: Hotel,” “A Star is Born” and “House of Gucci.”
Lastly, Mark Ronson was born on Sept. 4, 1975. The record producer is popularly known for his work with some of the biggest names in the music industry, like Amy Winehouse, Adele, Miley Cyrus and many more.
The three public figures mentioned above worked on one very special project released in 2018, the official soundtrack for the movie “A Star is Born” which starred Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
In a 2023 interview with NME, the producer, who also worked on “Barbie the Album” for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie, recalled the time when Cooper stopped by the recording studio one day where he got the chance to listen to Lady Gaga’s album “Joanne.” Ronson said the actor was “so sweet” as he talked about the new script that he and the pop star were working on at the time.
The producer later played the song “Joanne,” and it seemed that Cooper loved it to the point that he wanted to have it for the film.
“I played him the song called ‘Joanne’ and he’s like, ‘that’s great, can I have it?’” Ronson said.
He later added that although Cooper was a “big star and everything,” Ronson really liked the track and needed it for Lady Gaga’s album of the same name.
Lady Gaga’s song was named after her late aunt, whom she never got the chance to meet. She said in a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone that the title track was “the true heart and soul of the record”
“She is the woman of my past who is becoming and helping me bring more of my honest woman self into the future,” the singer said of her aunt.

Even though “Joanne” never made it to the official soundtrack of “A Star is Born,” Lady Gaga and Ronson were able to come up with “Shallow,” which became massive to the point that it earned them an Oscar.
In the interview with NME, Ronson recalled a core memory when he and the singer were working on the chorus of the song for days. At the time, the duo stayed at Rick Rubin’s studio, Shangri La, in Malibu, and he remembered hearing Lady Gaga singing 30 feet away.
“I have this very distinct memory of Gaga’s voice coming from 30 feet away, sounding so excited about something as she came in. She sat down at the piano and started singing ‘I’m off the deep end…’” he said.
The track became a significant part of the movie as it was used during the scene where the country superstar Jack, played by Cooper, decided to perform the song written by a waitress and struggling singer named Ally, played by Lady Gaga, during a concert. The singer’s character later joined him on stage, and the crowd was surprised by her talent. It was the beginning of her musical career as she also became a successful musician later in the film.
In real life, Cooper and Lady Gaga also performed the track at the Academy Awards.
The track was able to win numerous awards aside from the Oscars, which included the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media, and many more.
