In this video from 2009, the power of quality entertainment can be witnessed in all of its full glory. At a basketball game at Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, a group of cheerleaders gave a splendid half-time show to a number of famous pop hits. But this all-male cheerleading squad—the school's Senior Powderpuff cheerleaders—gave a performance like no other and in the process ended up famous on the internet and became a worldwide sensation. The video of their half-time show has amassed over three million views since it was uploaded! And we can completely understand why.
Sporting games are an exciting event for many people worldwide. Of course, there are the athletes who are playing in the game, there is the crowd supporting in the stands, and then there are the cheerleaders. Cheerleading might seem like a part of sporting games that isn't essential, but when you see a good cheer squad and how they pump up both the crowd and the players, then you realize how integral they really are to the game.
Back in 2009, a cheer squad from Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas demonstrated just how great a half-time show can be. The all-male Senior Powderpuff cheerleaders performed during a student versus staff basketball game. From the start, it's clear this isn't any ordinary half-time show—literally, it's introduced as "without a doubt the best performance you will ever see." That's a lot to live up to, but soon enough these boys showed they are very much deserving of this statement.

The routine begins with one cheerleader kneeling down in a pose before he slowly rises as the rest of the squad make their way to the center of the court. At this point, the fact that the entire squad is composed of boys who are wearing female cheer uniforms, skirts, and all, over their own sports clothes, makes it apparent that this will be one very different performance.
The music finally begins and it's none other than Michael Jackson's iconic '80s hit Thriller. The boys begin a dance routine that has the crowd cheering—they're truly dancing and giving it their all, and they're absolutely nailing the moves! Who knew that a group of boys had so much groove?!
Then without missing a beat, the music changes over to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. The choreography remains at a consistently strong level, showing that the start of the routine wasn't a one-off—these guys are serious and they plan to dance up a storm through the entire performance.
Just as quickly as Gaga came on, so too now has Taylor Swift, switching up the tempo of the dancing accordingly. But before long the infamous moment when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards comes on. It draws a big laugh from the crowd, who are clearly enjoying the performance very much. This serves as an unexpected transition into the next song, which happens to be Beyonce's, Single Ladies. Mimicking the iconic dance moves from the music video, the boys continue to entertain and have the crowd's undivided attention.

The music then switches to a ballad-type song, before speeding up into a dance music number. At this point, the squad has brought some lifting into their routine, as they hold up one of their own in a simultaneous display of strength and comedy. A number of songs cycle through, including Miley Cyrus' Party in the USA, as the cheer squad continues dancing with the intensity that they began with, while also pulling off jumps and flips.
Finally, we get to the end of the performance, with Jay Sean's song Down closing things out. Mirroring the song's lyrical content, the boys fall down to the ground one by one, until the last guy is standing and then he drops down too as the music ends with a thud. Instantly, the crowd gets up and gives them an incredibly loud and supportive standing ovation. And boy, did they deserve it!
The routine is amazing in a number of ways—for one, the dancing and acrobatics were genuinely great and fun to watch. Secondly, the perfectly thought out comedic elements in it added another layer to the performance. Thirdly, they proved exactly what a great half-time cheer routine can do to energize a crowd. This is the level that other half-time shows should aspire to.
Since it was posted in 2009, the video has received over 3.3 million views on YouTube. Their performance, which completely pumped up a crowd in real life, has now taken on a new life energizing others all over the world through the internet.
In the video description, the boys state, "Ellen, we want to be on your show!!" It seems that the boys didn't have their wish to appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show granted, but they can rest assured that they were certainly good enough. Perhaps the comedian and her team simply didn't see the video at the time.
Nevertheless, people have been commenting their support on the video and the Powderpuff cheerleaders should feel proud. One commenter states, "Great commitment guys. Most guys would have started laughing and quit," while another made light of this too, writing "Oh no!! Men who can dance openly!!! My mom warned me about this...She said they're fantastic!"
Others talked about how great their talents were, including one person comparing them to cheerleading portrayals in popular movies: "I find it odd how these guys are better than every Bring It On movie I have ever watched." Meanwhile, another talked about how much the video had cheered them up over the years, writing:
"Guys, I had to watch this again to cheer up so I can get some paperwork done. Your video continues to bring happiness to people's lives. This will be one of my favorites even when I'm 80. THANK YOU."
The Powderpuff cheerleaders did something incredible that day in 2009—they showed off their talents to the world, both at the time in person and years later all over the world through the internet. Besides being a delight to watch and an instant mood booster, this video and the boys in it show that determination and a good attitude are key aspects of achieving success in life
