Boy Who Lost Legs As Baby Walks Six Miles To Raise Over $1M For Hospital That Rescued Him

Get your tissues ready, because here comes the most inspiring thing you're going to see all day: a young boy in the UK who had his legs amputated when he was five weeks old recently raised one million pounds for the hospital that saved his life by completing a walking challenge.
A lifetime that began in tragedy

Tony's life wasn't always filled with joy and encouragement. In fact, there was a time when many people doubted that he would even survive.
Tony was born to Jody Simpson and Tony Smith in 2015. While he was an infant, the couple regularly beat and assaulted him until he was finally taken away and put up for adoption. His adopted mother Paula first met him in the Evelina London Children's Hospital.

At the young age of only four months old, this child had broken limbs, mass organ failure, trauma to his face, and more. Amputating both of his legs was a difficult but necessary choice that ended up saving the child's life. His parents were later convicted of child cruelty and sent to prison in 2018.
When Paula and her husband adopted little Tony, it was clear that they had to shower him with love and affection in order for him to thrive. And five short years later, Tony has become a happy, cheerful, enthusiastic little boy. He loves life, he loves helping others, and it's certain that he'll go on to do great things in his lifetime.
But a new lease on life wasn't enough...

Tony's life might have been transformed by the love of his adoptive parents, but it wasn't enough just to be happy. He wanted to help new children who, like him, had gotten a shaky start at life. And in 2020, he decided that he wanted to complete a walking challenge to raise money for the hospital that had saved his life.
With the help of a pair of crutches and a set of artificial legs, Tony Hudgell started walking. At first, he was committed to raising a small goal of 500 pounds. But when the media got ahold of the story, his team went from a group of friends and family members to a massive audience of millions of supporters.

He received donations from all over the country and was sponsored by big corporations like Nike. It's clear that this young boy's story has touched hearts across the globe--and if he's this generous and compassionate as a child, we can't wait to see what he does when he's an adult.
In the end, Tony massively surpassed his goal of 500 pounds by presenting a donation of over one million pounds to the Evelina London Children's Hospital. Now he'll be able to help other children just like him. When they grow up, maybe they'll be inspired by him to pay it forward one day.
Reuters reported that consultant Michail Kokkinakis believes Tony's determination comes from the support of his family, who have helped him cope with multiple operations. He added, "He’s a huge inspiration to us all."
