Almost 14 years ago, Steve Irwin, also known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” tragically passed away at the age of 44, after he was attacked by a stingray.

On February 22, Steve Irwin would have turned 58. In honor of his birthday, his whole family shared some emotional tributes.

Terri Irwin, Steve’s wife, honored her late husband with an emotional Twitter post sharing multiple pictures of Steve and remembering him as her "best friend" and the "best dad," saying:

“Today would’ve been Steve’s 58th birthday,” she wrote. “While my heart aches missing him every day, I’m determined to celebrate what he loved the most. He was happiest spending time @AustraliaZoo w/ @BindiIrwin & @RobertIrwin. He was my best friend, best dad, & built the best Zoo. I love you.”

Steve’s daughter, Bindi Irwin, posted a picture to her Instagram that shows her father holding a porcupine as well as herself as a young girl smiling right next to him. Alongside this sweet picture, Bindi also shared some heartfelt words addressed to her late father letting him know how much he still means to her.

“Dad, Today is your birthday, I had an extra strong cup of tea just how you liked it. I hugged Mum for you and told her how much we love her. Robert and I went on a hike through the mountains you cherished. I watched one of your documentaries with Chandler and shared stories about you. I walked through your office in the zoo and smiled at our old family photographs”, Bindi captioned her post. “Today and every day I miss you and love you beyond description. You’re always with me. ❤️”

Robert Irwin, Bindi’s brother and Steve’s son, also paid tribute to his father on the day that would have been his 58th birthday. He shared a throwback picture to his Instagram that shows the whole Irwin family – Steve, Terri, Bindi, and Robert – all smiling into the camera.

Robert captioned the post with two simple but meaningful words, “Family always ❤️.”
