Beyoncé And Jay-Z Face Backlash For Sitting During National Anthem At Super Bowl

Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z attended the 2020 Super Bowl at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami along with their daughter Blue Ivy. The two musicians stayed for the game and were seen seated with Blue during Demi Lovato's national anthem performance.

While Lovato sang on the field and the majority of the stadium stood up, the Carters were seen on camera staying in their seats as per a video on TMZ. It was unclear if the decision to sit down was a protest move, much like Colin Kapernick's "taking a knee" moment against police brutality, reports Newsweek. But in any case, their move was criticized by plenty of social media users.

A broadcast journalism student in Mississippi tweeted that they should be "ashamed" for sitting down during the anthem and even more so for involving their child. She called the move "disgusting" for not standing for the people who put their lives on the line daily for America.

Other users came to their defense, like a user who said that they were practicing their first amendment rights and if we blame Jay-Z and Beyoncé for being unpatriotic, we may as well blame the constitution.

What do you think about Jay-Z and Beyoncé sitting down during the national anthem? Was it unpatriotic or were they exercising their rights? Or perhaps there was another reason for them to sit down during that moment?
