Betty White has had such a long and illustrious career that she's not necessarily known for one thing—it's possible you're familiar with her work from a range of different TV shows or movies. That long career of hers—81 years to be exact!—has earned her a Guinness World Record for the "Longest TV Career by an Entertainer (Female)." What a feat! Over her years as an actress she's won eight Emmy Awards, but this entry into the Guinness Book of World Records isn't something many other actors have.

When she first entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2014, Betty told the Huffington Post:

“I was astounded when [Guinness World Records] called to tell me. Who? Me!?! It’s such an honor. The book has always been fascinating to me. I can’t believe I’m now associated with it."

White clearly takes her craft seriously, which is why she's so revered and recognized in the industry. Speaking in the same interview, she discussed how people hoping to become actors should "do their homework and take the time to appreciate their profession. It is a privilege to do what we do."

But not only is she the leading female entertainer with the longest TV career, but she's also the oldest person after she overtook Sir Robert Forsyth, who holds the record for the male counterpart. Coming from the UK, he was active as an actor for 76 years, with his career spanning 1939-2015.

Betty is known for being on some of TV's greatest shows, which include The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Carol Burnett Show. In more recent years she's appeared in her own special, titled Betty White's 90th Birthday Party, as well as Hot in Cleveland.

Having grown up in California, the actress got her start as a dancer performing in an experimental dance show in Los Angeles. She continued to work in show business, switching between radio and producing television and even had a stint on a number of game shows in the 1960s. During World War II, she took a break from acting and helped with the war effort, helping to transport military supplies.

In an interview last year with Parade magazine, as reported by ET Canada, Betty revealed her secrets for a long and happy life. She stated:

"Accentuate the positive, not the negative. It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look.”
