The royal family gathered in March 2025 to celebrate Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey. The special day was commemorated by senior members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales. It was an event that many looked forward to, with the press and public eagerly awaiting the complete return of Princess Catherine to royal duties. Princess Catherine, 43, announced that she was in remission from cancer after undergoing chemotherapy in 2024.

The royals started off the day’s celebrations by attending a church service. King Charles II spoke positively about the Commonwealth organization’s ability to unite nations worldwide. His presence at this year’s ceremony was a welcome one, as last year, he and his daughter-in-law, Princess Catherine, were forced to miss out on one of the most important days of the year for the royal family. Both of them had been undergoing cancer treatment and could not make appearances at the church service last year. This year, King Charles took a moment to champion environmental action and speak on the good that the Commonwealth organization of 56 countries has done for its members.

“In these uncertain times, where it is all too easy to believe that our differences are problems instead of a source of strength and an opportunity for learning, the Commonwealth’s remarkable collection of nations and peoples come together in the spirit of support and, crucially, friendship,” he said.

All eyes were on the royals as they attended the church service commemorating Commonwealth Day on Mar. 10, 2025. While King Charles and Prince William wore dark suits, Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine showed up in bold, colorful dresses – opting for pink and red, respectively. Social media users couldn’t help but notice that, while Charles shared an embrace with William and kissed him on the cheek, no such niceties were offered to Catherine. This instantly ignited social media discussion as to why the King had snubbed one of the royal family’s most beloved and popular members.

A video posted on TikTok showed the King forgetting to greet Catherine. In the video, Prince William was seen kissing the cheeks of both his father and stepmother. At the same time, Catherine only greeted Queen Camilla as Charles got lost in another conversation and neglected to greet her. Princess Catherine appeared unfazed by the snub and continued to smile warmly.

One social media user observed:

“Did Charles not care to look at Catherine? Not even a blown kiss? Guess he’s still salty people pushed back at BP’s female royal photographers shade post for #IWD2025.”

“He totally ignored her,” another user pointed out.

“This isn’t the first time he has snubbed Kate Middleton,” a netizen claimed, as another said, “Honestly, Charles doesn't look like he even cares much for Williams greeting. That whole little moment is kinda uncomfortable to watch.”

However, not every commentator had a negative take, as one surmised:

“Maybe he is sicker than we are allowed to know and she did not want to give him her germs. Unless the King was getting kissed by all and sundry, i think this is an indication about how sick he really is.”

“May be accidental as they were directed to walk 🤷🏼‍♀️” a user suspected, while another remarked, “They must have greeted or met already the same day.”

“King Charles has been doing this all his life. He knows exactly who to greet and when. He has a very close relationship with Catherine and would never publicly snub her,” another claimed.
