Grateful Baby Elephant Follows Human Rescuer Everywhere She Goes

Wild Is Life - That's the name of a wildlife sanctuary run by Roxy Danckwerts, a dedicated woman who helps orphaned and injured wildlife gain a second chance.

This is commendable no matter where in the world it happens, but Roxy lives in Africa. She and her staff have rehabilitated giraffes, ostriches, and even cheetahs! So what happens when a baby elephant is brought to them? A bit of pandemonium ensues, of course!

Moyo, The Orphaned Elephant

According to BBC1, when Moyo first came to the sanctuary, he was a 'tiny' baby elephant, possibly no more than a few days old. He had been found alone and was starving. It appears that he tried a river crossing with his herd but was swept away from his mother in the swollen currents.

How he survived that is anybody's guess, but he would not survive much longer without protection and food. He was brought to Roxy's wildlife sanctuary, and there he began a new life as a house elephant.

As you can see from the video below, he's grown quite a bit. He's filled out, lost his shyness, and become very curious. This is a trait elephants need to build herd unity and to survive in the wild. But an elephant in the kitchen is another thing entirely!

A House Elephant?

If you've ever known a large dog like a Great Dane or a Saint Bernard, then you know the trouble they can create in a house. Their head sweeps across the table as they snatch a bite off someone's plate. They stretch out on the couch and there's no room for anyone else.

Well, multiply that by five and you've got baby Moyo, who walks around the house like a dog but is far larger and capable of more mischief. No dog ever had a trunk to help them reach over their heads! Moyo is slowly destroying his favorite couch, and he doesn't even realize it!
