At 90, Shirley Jones Look Stunning In Red Lipstick Photo But Fans Are Torn About Her Appearance

Shirley Jones is a talented actor and singer. Jones was born in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, on March 31, 1934. Jones began singing at the age of 6 when she joined the Methodist Church choir. To sharpen her skills, Jones took voice lessons under the tutelage of Ralph Lewando. In her teenage years, she honed her acting skills; she also participated in school plays when she was a student at South Huntingdon High School in Ruffs Dale, Pennsylvania. To cap it off, Jones won the Miss Pittsburgh contest in 1952 at the age of 18.

Jones’ foray into professional acting started after she attended an audition for an open bi-weekly casting call held by John Fearnley, the casting director for theater/songwriting team Rodgers and Hammerstein and their various projects. Impressed by her performance at the audition, Fearnley immediately alerted Rodgers and Hammerstein. The songwriters saw her potential and drafted a contract to that effect, making Jones the only singer to be put under a personal contract with the songwriters.

Following her success at the audition, she got her first minor role in the Broadway show, “South Pacific.” After her stint on Broadway, she transitioned to films and featured in “Oklahoma,” “The Music Man,” and “Elmer Gantry,” for which she won the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Jones went on to build a successful career, working on incredible projects like “The Partridge Family,” which made her a pop culture television icon.

Now 90, Jones isn’t as active in the movie industry anymore, but she’s still maintaining her beauty. In an Instagram picture shared on Aug. 25, 2023, the actress wore red lipstick and looked chummy with her son. However, the photo attracted a mixture of reactions from fans. 

Besides dominating the screen, the “Carousel” actress had an interesting personal life. She was married twice and enjoys being a mom. Jones was first married in 1956 to actor and singer Jack Cassidy. The former couple was married for almost 20 years until their divorce in 1975. Jones and Jack ran a blended family with their three sons, Shaun, Patrick, and Ryan, and David, who was Jack’s son from his first marriage.

After the marriage ended, Jones walked down the aisle for the second time in 1977 when she got married to Marty Ingels. Although their marriage experienced its highs and lows, the couple remained married for over four decades until Ingels’s death in 2015.

Outside of her marriages, Jones is particular about family. Being an only child, she considers it her biggest blessing to have had and raised three sons. In a 2021 interview with Closer Weekly, she gushed about how amazing having a family was.

“I’ve raised three wonderful sons who grew up to be great men of character and accomplishment,” Jones said. “And I love visits with my grandchildren … I am an only child, so to have all this family is amazing. You have to enjoy this moment — the now — because that’s really all we have.”

Besides spending time with her family, Shirley is living her life to the fullest. In 2014, when she turned 80, the actress fulfilled her lifelong dream of skydiving. Jones was inspired to include the jump in her birthday plans by former President George W. Bush, who marked every fifth birthday after his retirement with a jump.

Jones has been away from the spotlight for a long time. So it was no wonder that fans were excited when her son, Patrick, shared pictures of the veteran actress on a family vacation. On Aug. 8, 2023, Patrick took to Instagram to share pictures of the actress in a group picture with her sons and their family. 

Barely two weeks after he shared the first picture, Patrick posted another photo of his mom. In the photo, the actor was seen cuddling up to his mom, who wore bright red lipstick and a black two-piece tracksuit. Jones looked stunning as the red lipstick complemented her gray hair.

“So grateful to have you in my life mom. Love you,” Patrick wrote in the caption.

The seemingly sweet mother-son post sparked a debate between fans who thought Jones’s appearance could have been better and those who thought she looked great.

“She looks amazing!! But please give her a chic hair style - too many older women are given unattractive, almost manly hair cuts out of convenience :/ your mom deserves a cute, chic style,” one person commented.

“I totally agree! She’s such a classy lady. She needs a classy haircut come on guys. Get with it,” another supported.

To counter the comments by the critics, other users, including Patrick, rose to defend Jones’s look.

“What does it mean 'give her'?( She is not a doll, she makes her decisions herself! She had shot hearcut many times in her life. Who are you to give your advices? Sorry, you sound out of tact,” a user wrote.

“She had short hair on the Partridge Family if you remember? It is probably easier for her to manage,” wrote another

“🙏🏻Yes, she’s had her hair short since the Partridge Family. 😊” Patrick added.
