At 90, Joan Collins Steps Out Looking ‘Every Inch The International Superstar’

Dame Joan Collins is a star in every essence of the word. Born on May 23, 1933, she was raised in London, England. She has been a notable actress for several decades and is also recognized for her talents as a writer, both as a columnist and as an author.

Collins attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts during her teenage years before going on to land several roles in the 1950s. She went on to appear in many films and television shows as her career picked up, such as “The Road to Hong Kong” in 1962, “These Old Broads” in 2001, and more recently in “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” in 2018. 

Collins’ most notable role was portraying the character Alexis Colby, in the soap opera “Dynasty” from 1981 until 1989, which earned her plenty of praise and recognition. It’s no surprise that she has received plenty of awards and accolades over the course of her lifetime, with a career spanning from the 1950s until the present day. She was even made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015 for her charitable services.

Nowadays, Collins is taking control of her own narrative, sharing her stories with the world through a book filled with her diary entries and a documentary. Not letting the darker side of the entertainment industry stop her from fulfilling her dreams, Collins has continued to flourish and is still making waves for women of all ages. Despite turning 90 in 2023, the always elegant star has lost none of her vampish beauty and charm she has become so well known for.

Collins’ role as Alexis on “Dynasty” was a pivotal moment in her career, truly cementing her reputation as an actress and inspiring others in the future. The show itself was so monumental that it even sparked a new television series by the same name in 2017, starring Elizabeth Gillies as Fallon, Alexis’ daughter.

While Collins has been recognized for many wonderful attributes over the years, she most recently received a plethora of comments about her stunning body well into her 80s. The actress posted a glamorous photograph to her Instagram on Jan.16, 2022, showing off her long and lean legs. Her look featured a black dress with a high split, a feathered shawl and a diamond necklace. In the caption, she wrote, “Perfect outfit for a casual walk!”

According to Hello! Magazine, the look was a huge hit with fans. One person commented, “As glamorous as always and looking like a million dollars!” Another said: “Remnants of Alexis methinks. Absolutely gorgeous and fabulous. Only you can pull this glamor off. Love it. Love it. Love it.”

As an icon, Collins has frequently used her platform and her voice to share her story with the world, introducing people to learn about the less glamorous side of Hollywood. She published “My Unapologetic Diaries” in October 2021, which featured several diary entries detailing the star’s personal experiences. 

In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s “Woman Hour,” the actress and author also spoke out about how she handled “predatory” men during the start of her career. “It didn’t just start when I went to Hollywood,” Collins explained. “I started in the business at 16 and it started then.”

Despite the inappropriate way men treated her in her younger years, Collins never let anything stop her from pursuing her passions. She explained that she learned how to laugh at it all as her way to move forward with uncomfortable situations. “I coped with it by laughing a lot,” she said. “Men cannot stand it when you laugh at them.”

Back in 2017, Collins spoke about the same topic on “This Morning.” She even said her father didn’t want her to become an actress because of the “bad men” in the industry. Collins admitted she didn’t know what he meant at first but understood when she went on a casting call and was asked to maneuver her clothing to look more revealing for a role with just one line. Collins also recalled some advice Marilyn Monroe had once given her, as she said: 

“Watch out for the wolves in Hollywood, honey.”

On May 23, 2023, Collins marked her milestone 90th birthday, and the celebrations were well underway ahead of the big day. On May 17, 2023, the star was spotted out in London for a cozy and well-deserved dinner with her husband of 20 years, Percy Gibson. 

Collins looked as elegant and classy in a leopard print dress under a beige coat lined with fur. Her gold jewelry elevated her look, which was paired with some strappy heels, a perfect blowout and some dramatic red lips. She walked hand in hand with Gibson, who was also dressed smartly in a navy blue suit, crisp white shirt and a matching pocket square. It’s clear Collins could put women half her age to shame with her timeless beauty, style and grace.

Collins also shared a snap from their night out on Instagram, which showed her looking resplendent as she gazed adoringly at her beaming husband. “We’re going #onthetown,” the caption read. Fans couldn’t believe just how amazing Collins looked and took to the comments to praise the English actress.

“You look fantastic and never age,” one user wrote while another commented, “Love this pic of u both Dame Collins. Expect nothing but Leopard. You r ageless and timeless in my opinion.”

Collins stepped out looking resplendent again for the Kite Festival at Kirlington Park, Oxfordshire, on Jun. 10, 2023. The star looked every inch the Hollywood legend in a fitted white, knee-length dress adorned with a dramatic cape. Collins was participating in the event as its headline interview. She also posted a video of herself being transported to the venue in a buggy alongside her interviewer as they braced the heat. Fans couldn’t get enough of the star’s timeless beauty and took to the comments to praise her.

“Looking every inch the international superstar as always just fabulous… ❤️” one commenter said, while another wrote, “You are SO beautiful ! Loving the fan ! Even go 30 degree heat, our Joan doesn't wilt ! 😂”

Gibson later joined his famous wife at the event. Collins has been married to Gibson since she wed him in 2002, at the age of 68. More than 30 years her junior, Collins has never sought to hide the fact that she was grateful to be matched with somebody far younger than herself. She once told The Sunday Times, as reported by Daily Mail, that she was grateful to be married to him. 

“Thank God I married somebody 30 years younger than me. I couldn't bear to be married to someone my own age,” she said.
