It is so common for Hollywood celebrities to do whatever they can to keep themselves looking as young as possible. Cosmetic procedures, expensive treatments — you name it, they have done it. Jamie Lee Curtis used to be a celebrity who would go to great lengths to ensure she looked good. But she has since realized what is best for her.

Like most women, Curtis was constantly criticized for how she looked. At 65 years old, Curtis no longer feels pressured to conform to these standards and hasn't for a long time. She has a full head of white hair and no longer dyes it. She has also quit wearing high heels. Getting consistent work and staying famous can be harder for stars as they grow older since fewer roles are available for women past a certain age. At 65, the star is still glowing and glamorous and has no plans to slow down her vibrant career.

Curtis has been an icon in the film and television industry since the late 1970s when she rose to fame with her starring role in the horror franchise “Halloween.” The successful actress has played a variety of characters in her many career avenues, with some of her most notable roles being mothers, such as her part in "Freaky Friday."

In 2024, Curtis surprised everyone when she and Lindsay Lohan announced they were reprising their roles from “Freaky Friday” for a sequel 22 years later. As photographers tried to get a glimpse of the highly-awaited screen reunion between Lohan and Curtis, they snapped photos of Curtis with a new longer hairstyle. Keep reading to learn more about Curtis’ outlook on her hair and her reunion with Lohan.

During a podcast interview with People in June 2021, Curtis talked about how she learned to be mindful about aging while staying relevant in Hollywood, thanks to her famous parents — actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis. "I'm the child of movie stars," she said. "I watched my parents get facelifts and neck lifts."

Although her parents did what they could to still look youthful, the harsh reality of Hollywood is that not all stars are able to shine for their entire careers.

"I watched their work diminish, I watched their fame not diminish," Curtis explained. "And the contradiction of a lot of fame, but not a lot of work, is really hard to navigate for people."

Curtis talked about how it is "very hard to be famous but not be doing the thing that made you famous. And that for the rest of your life, you're famous for something you did a long time ago, and you chase that attention."

Watching her parents' careers play out and seeing how their wave of success went up and down despite being such legends in the acting industry helped Curtis prepare for when it came to be her own time to experience the reality of being an older actress.

"I wanted to be mindful, as the daughter of stars," Curtis said. "And so, I was hedging my bets, 'cause I don't want to be the person pining away for work and not getting it. It's humiliating, and it's a hard business. It's all about what you look like."

Curtis definitely hasn't let her age stand in the way of staying famous. In 2022, she won her first Academy Award for playing the disgruntled IRS inspection officer Deirdre Beaubeirdre in the film “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

As Curtis gained further recognition, she remained committed to advocating for women to embrace their natural beauty. More specifically, Curtis is a passionate advocate for women of her age and occupation, and her hair has become an extension of how she embodies the character she plays.

In a 2021 interview, Curtis spoke to Scottish television host Lorraine Kelly and talked about how she tried various hairstyles throughout her career.

"I tried to do everything you can do to your hair. Personally, I felt it (was) humiliating. I would go into a hair salon — the smell of the chemicals, the feeling of that color on my hair (...) wearing the thing, sitting under the hairdryer — I was like, 'For what?'" Curtis revealed. "So very early on in my career, I had a perm and then had to dye my hair for a movie and it burned my hair off my head. And the first time I cut my hair short, I went, 'Oh! (...) Wow, I look like me!'"

Since then, Curtis decided to stop dyeing her hair, as well as leave her face the way it is. She confessed to Fast Company in 2021 that she tried plastic surgery, and "it didn’t work."

“It got me addicted to Vicodin. I'm 22 years sober now. The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty. Once you mess with your face, you can't get it back,” she added.

Curtis echoed the same sentiments in her interview with Kelly, where she exclaimed: "We're all gonna die! Why do you want to look 17 when you're 70!? I want to look 70 when I'm 70!"

At 65, Curtis is still one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. In June 2024, Disney Studios announced that she and Lohan were reprising their roles from “Freaky Friday,” 22 years after the first film became a blockbuster hit.

“The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!” Disney announced in an Instagram post, showing Curtis and Lohan holding hands outside their production trailer vans.

In an interview with The New York Times, Curtis revealed how overdue the sequel is.

"As I went around the world with 'Halloween Ends,' people wanted to know if there was going to be another 'Freaky Friday' (...) When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there's a movie to be made,'" Curtis revealed to the publication.

On July 4, 2024, Just Jared obtained photographs of Curtis returning to her production trailer van with long gray hair. Fans reacted upon seeing Curtis with her new hairdo.

“Love Jamie, be interesting to see what happens in the movie, she must be a grandma by now, she looks so like her mum 😍 but love her hair short! ❤️ 😊” one said.

“Like her better in short.hair .this doesnt do nothing for her.the short style look amazing on her .not everyine can wear real short hair,” another commented.

“Hmmm I feel like they should have kept her with short hair....but still super excited!” another wrote.

This wasn’t the first time Curtis had appeared with longer hair. Curtis also reprised her role in the third season of “The Bear” as Donna Berzatto, who has long graying blonde hair.
