Shania Twain is a Canadian singer and songwriter who has sold over 100 million records throughout her career. This makes her the best-selling female country music artist of all time and one of the top-selling artists in music history. She has come to be known as the "Queen of Country Pop" and is best known for her songs "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" and "Any Man of Mine." The singer won a Grammy Award for the latter song.
In 2008, everyone was shocked when her then-husband, Robert Lange, cheated on her with her secretary, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Marie-Anne was married to Frédéric Thiébaud at that time. And in a stunning turn of events, Twain and Frederic later tied the knot together in 2011 in Puerto Rico.
Following the cheating scandal, Twain promptly dumped Lange. He made some far-fetched statements about the breakup, such as, “It’s literally just a growing apart, that’s all.” They formally divorced in 2010. The Thiébauds also divorced as a consequence of the affair.
Frédéric and Twain have now been married for over a decade. The couple officially dated in 2009 and got married in Rincon, Puerto Rico, on New Year’s Day in 2011. Her happy marriage boosted her confidence, and she became happier with herself as she introduced her new era with bold looks and her own unique fashion sense. Her 2022 single, “Waking Up Dreaming,” is about showing her affection toward her partner and being happy with him.
Ditching her simple country girl looks and style, Twain surprised everyone as she ushered in a new era with newfound confidence and boldness in her admiration for her own skin and body. She spoke to The Mirror and shared her thoughts on plastic surgery and finally loving her body after years of being ashamed of it.
Twain started in the industry in 1995. She produced love songs like “You’re Still The One I Love” and “Forever And For Always.” Back then, her fashion sense could be likened to typical country girl singers decked out in flannel and jeans, partnered with boots and her iconic brunette locks.
Behind his massive fame in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and all over the world, like any other person, Twain has also been visited by self-doubt from time to time. In her personal interview with The Mirror, Twain opened up about her thoughts on her own self-image, including how she deals with her body.
“There were times I did like turning the lights off as all I could see were the imperfections, so, I said, ‘OK, how can I face this and get this to a point where I accept it?’” she told the publication.
Since she was performing at the young age of 8 years old, Twain had become self-conscious about how she looked, even recalling a particularly personal moment when she was still a teenager, when she was forced to deal with the idea of puberty.
“When I was a teenager, my boobs got so big,” Twain shared. “I could not stop them from bouncing, so I had to strap them down and wear two bras and loose clothing. I just did not want these boobs."
Twain also pointed out that while all of this was happening, she was actually “freaking out inside,” but she did not confide that to anyone up until the interview.
Now at 58 years old, it has finally dawned on the country music superstar that she has to love herself no matter what her imperfections are.

Eventually, Twain triumphed over her own personal battle with self-image.
In announcing her 2022 single, “Waking Up Dreaming,” Twain shocked everyone when she posed nude for the record’s cover art. It was during this time that Twain had the boost of confidence to dress and present herself outside the box. She even donned platinum blonde and bright red wigs at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
Speaking to InStyle Magazine, where she rocked a black mohawk, Twain said that she is “more adventurous now,” as she is “excited” about what is new and what she could experiment with.
Elsewhere during her interview with The Mirror, Twain, who back then, turned off the light to avoid seeing her body, had some pretty empowering realizations.
"I thought, ‘I am just going to force myself through this,'" Twain said about her nude photography sessions, which she sought out in pursuit of finding a “more healthy and realistic perspective” of herself. “Now, I look at myself naked, and I like the honesty about myself."
She also even recalled her thoughts on wishing to have breast reduction surgery, but now, Twain realized that it was a “good thing” that she did not go through with it: “This is how I am supposed to look.”
Now proud and a champion for body positivity and self-expression, Twain became candid about her realizations and even offered a piece of advice to other women.

Twain spoke with Fox News at the 2023 CMT Music Awards about her outlook on aging and showing off her body. “I’m just doing what I do,” the country singer explained. “I only pay attention to the positive reaction, if I’m being really honest. I don’t invite negativity in.”
"I take responsibility for my decisions and once I make them, I’ve made them because I’m happy with them. So, it doesn’t matter to me," Twain added.
For Twain, the concept of getting older and having a different body doesn’t worry her. She shared:
"As we get older especially, we do tend to get more, shy or more critical of our bodies. Our skin starts (to) sag, it’s just part of growing old. I plan on aging naturally."
The concept of aging naturally also means accepting your body the way it is and the way it changes. While it can be hard to be confident all the time, Twain said that she wants to be comfortable in her own skin. "…That also means being comfortable in your skin and instead of hiding it, embracing it and enjoying it,” she explained.
Along with wanting to be more confident in herself, Twain also wants the country music industry to be more accepting of people and their choices, whether it be to pose nude or bring influences from other genres into their work. Twain said:
